Xavier Roberts follows a Bunny Bee through a waterfall and, after finding himself in a magical land where children grow in cabbage patches, helps to save two of the children from kidnappers.
Learning that Cabbage Patch Kids lore is a bastardized commercialization of Southern folk mythology has changed everything I thought I knew about the '80s.
Another book & tape set I discovered from when I was a kid. As usual, I lost the book but kept the tape. I must've been more into books & tapes than I realized... This is the origin story of how Xavier Roberts discovered the Cabbage Patch Kids, hidden behind kudzu vines & tended to by bunny bees, & of his attempts to protect them from kidnappers, one of which is a giant hare (I don't remember his name, but it wasn't Harvey). Yes, it's a weird story, but it's also wonderful, and taught many children about adoption (as well as launch an iconic, massive, 80s trend). I remember loving this story & reading it over & over, until I lost the book. Fortunately, I had the tape to enjoy & listen to over & over.
