Friends to Lovers

Tomiloju and Ikenna have been best friends since high school. Both academic high flyers, they’ve always had a lot in common and have stayed close without it ever getting romantic. In the years since graduation, they have remained there for each other through personal and professional turmoil. They are each other’s safety net, and as they head for their 20-Year High School Reunion, they are banking on each other for the support they both know they’ll need. They are inseparable the whole weekend...until a slip reveals things weren’t always only platonic for one of them, disrupting their dynamic of over two decades. Can their friendship survive it?

An Unlikely Kind of Love is the first book in the Malomo High Reunion Series and can be read as stand-alone or in continuum.

I loved the high school reunion and how much description was put into the characters with a little backstory. This is a short Nigerian romance book featuring Tomi and Ikenna.
I enjoyed the bickering between them but could not fathom why everything happened towards the end of the book.

I’m not sure how I feel about this book. Honestly, I didn’t enjoy it, which is surprising since I usually love romance-themed stories. The way their relationship started just didn’t sit right with me. To make matters worse, the female lead was in a relationship when all this started. That really put me off.

On the positive side, I enjoyed parts of the plot, especially the reunion and the focus on their friends’ stories. I also appreciated the career elements—starting and building a company was an interesting subplot. But when it came to the romance, I couldn’t get into it. The trope just didn’t work for me.

Overall, this book wasn’t for me. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked.

I started this book yesterday evening and ate up the remaining chapters this morning. I enjoyed the dynamic between Tomi and Ikenna's character, as well as that of Tomi with the other side characters - especially Zinna. S
Zinna made every page she was in so interesting and fun that I consider a personal favorite.
