Book three in the Perfect Timing Series The words 'have sex with a man' can change everything, especially when they're written on a straight man's to do list. Rigby and Brennan have been best friends forever. Growing up and going away to university didn't alter that. Brennan coming out of the closet to his straight best friend didn't change anything either. But when Brennan finds an old to do list mixed in with his friend's possessions, and sees 'have sex with a man' written right there at the top, it alters everything. When Brennan realises the man he's in love with isn't as straight as he'd always thought he was, their friendship changes beyond all recognition. When the friends decide it's time to start ticking off all the items on Rigby's gay to do list, they soon realise nothing will ever be the same - for either of them. Reader Advisory: This book stands alone and does not have to be read as part of the series.
Kim is a thirty-three year old bisexual submissive from Wales (UK). First published in 2008, she has since released almost 100 BDSM erotic romance titles ranging from short stories to full length novels. Having worked with a host of fantastic e-publishers, she has just moved into self publishing.
While she has occasionally ventured towards other pairings, Kim's first love is still, and probably always will be, Male/Male stories. But, no matter what the pairing, from paranormal to contemporary, and from the sweet to the intense, everything she writes will always feature three things - Kink, Love and a Happy Ending.
Another great effort from Kim! I read this one in one sitting and didn't put it down until the last page. Longer than some of her other books it was well fleshed out and interesting from start to finish.
This is a Gay For You storyline that is pretty endearing. Although the D/s power struggle that is part of all of KD's past m/m efforts is represented, it is less of the focus and sometimes sidetracks Brennan's story a bit. He waffles between being the dominant in his real life and fantasies and still wanting to be the submissive too.
Slightly simplified but still engrossing to watch, Rigby must come to grips with not only finding out his best friend is in love with him, but he is not as opposed to the idea as he thought he might be. As usual in GFY plots, one main character is more experienced than the other and someone always says “I’m not gay” usually in the most ridiculous circumstances, but those two clichés aside, the blossoming understanding of the changes in their relationship between the men was well written and interesting.
There is one scene in the middle where Rigby is trying to think and he is hugging Brennan. Every time Brennan tries to get him to release him, Rigby just keeps hugging and "shushing" him. The whole scene, for some reason, unfolded really clearly for me and pushed me into loving both of these boys.
Unlike her past books, this book had noticeably more editing errors than past efforts that were slightly distracting and POV shifts from Brennan to Rigby were not as smooth. Even with small problems, it was still great fun to read
Excellent m/m romance about two guys - one gay, one straight - who have been best friends since they were small and are now roommates at college. The gay guy's been quietly in love with his best friend for years, but has been resigned to never being able to touch him... until he finds his friend's list of things to experience, which segues from kissing and having sex with women (all checked off) to kissing a man (not checked off)... This was my first Kim Dare book, and remains my very favorite. :)
Very sweet story, but also a very hot one. It's best friends turn lovers with one of them being a classic straight guy who's only gay for his best friend. I liked that the story would seem cliche, but I couldn't get bored with it, nor did I feel like I saw it a hundred times before because the characters were very vivid and the premise with the "to-do list" was amusing and original. It also has some deep lines like “I’m not scared you’d screw around, I’m scared I’d let you” which really made me think...
This is one of the most romantic love story I have read lately.
Brennan and Rigby are best friends since forever. It's not clearly said, but I have the feeling that they come from middle-class families that probably lived in the same neighborhood and their parents were probably friends. For all their life, where it was Brennan there was also Rigby: schools, holidays and now college, always together and more or less in the same house or room. Even in college they are roommate. Brennan is the wiser and Rigby the happier. Brennan is gay and Rigby is straight. When Brennan came out to his best friend, Rigby said, cool, lets go eat a pizza. Rigby is so comfortable around Brennan that it's not important for him that his best friend his gay; his love for Brennan goes beyond their gender. They love each other so much, that it's almost incestuous to think that something could happen between them.
While Rigby loves Brennan like a part of himself, Brennan is like a brother, better Brennan is a part of his past, present and future, Brennan loves Rigby like a gay man can love another man. Brennan compares every man in his life with Rigby, and every man looses in the comparison. So when Brennan finds a list by Rigby, a "things I have to do" type of list, and he reads that his friend is open to the chance to have sex with a man, Brennan jumps in: he offers to Rigby to be his training ship. Problem is that Rigby doesn't even remember the list, and when Brennan offers himself, it makes Rigby sees his best friend Brennan with different eyes. Brennan has never talked about sex with him even if he has always listened to Rigby's past experiences with girl. Till that moment, Rigby probably has never ever realized that Brennan has a sex life, and that sex life is something Rigby has no part in. It's some side of Brennan's life that he doesn't know, and he doesn't like that: Brennan is him, and he has no right to give himself to someone else.
Now, don't get me wrong, Rigby is not possessive of Brennan in a selfish way; probably if Brennan had a steady relationship with a good man, maybe Rigby could be fond of the idea. But what he is learning about Brennan is about one night stands with strangers in the backroom of some bar. This is no acceptable, Brennan is better than that. Rigby has really at heart Brennan's good, even more than Brennan himself. For example, while Brennan is willing to let Rigby experiment, for the chance to have at least some fond memories, Rigby feels that it's not right for Brennan. What I liked most is that Rigby didn't jump to the obvious conclusion without thinking, he pondered his choice: Rigby had some expectation on his future, a family, children, things that, if he plans a relationship with Brennan will have to change. But again Rigby proves to be more than the happy-to-go guy that he seemed at the beginning of the story: in a way he is way more wiser than Brennan.
The story is a perfect example of two favorite gay romance subgenre of mine, "Friends with Benefits" and "Gay for You". Rigby loves Brennan despite his gender, Rigby is not gay, but he is not even straight; he could be bisexual, but he is planning to have a monogamous relationship with Brennan... so what Rigby is? He is simply a man in love, a man that wants the best for his partner, even if the best for Brennan means that Rigby has to renounce to something he considered important. In the balance of life, Rigby arrives to the conclusion that it's better to follow his heart.
You probably have understood that I'm very fond of Rigby. It's not that Brennan is not a good character, I like also his mix of pretty boy who has the potential to be a strong man; I like how he was always basically faithful to Rigby, if not with his body at least with his heart. I like him above all since he was able to inspire such a devotion in a man like Rigby. But as I said, I think that Brennan is not so wise as he looks, that he really needs someone like Rigby beside him, someone who forces him to face the truth and not to hide; if left alone, Brennan tends to shield against the world closing himself in a ball and not letting anyone inside.
As I said, this is a very romantic story. I like the setting, College, I like how young the characters are, how everything is still possible for them. I like the feeling I had at the end of the story, that this two boys will become happy and strong men, and that probably the life will be good for them.
A really nice story about two best friends, one of whom has been in love with the other for years.
When Brennan realizes that Rigby has a to-do list which includes trying gay sex, all bets are off. The process of the two best friends becoming more is gradual. I liked how Kim Dare approached it, making the emotions of both characters clear and adding subtle elements of D/s without letting that aspect take over.
A short, cute read. Two college roommates who had been friends for years find an old to do list. Brennan is gay, his friend Rigby is straight. Rigby's list however says he wants to try gay sex. The story takes you through Rigby's first gay kiss through to the beginning of his relationship with Brennan.
I really really like this book and can see now why people are fans of Kim Dare. I read this book out of order but it seemed like you could read the book as a standalone. OMG it was good and hot especially if you like GFY story lines.
I freaking loved these guys. It's pretty short so we don't get a whole lot of story but what we do get is sweet and hot and oh, so nice! Best friends to lovers done very well.
Just what I was looking for at the moment. This was a great story. Definitely pulled me in from the start. I enjoyed rigby & Brennan so much! Didn't wanna see it end.❤️❤️
A lovely short book about two friends, one gay and in love with his straight best friend. Due some list of to-do, the gay one, Brennan, kisses Rigby and things start to escalate to something more. I think friends-to-lovers is my favorite troupe since there is honesty between the guys, the misunderstandings are easy to cleared and the feelings are exposed since the first go. The friendship between Brennan and Rigby is strong, I could feel that they were real friends. There is also a bit of angsty, from Brennan's side, since he has always been in love with his friend ("It's always been you, Rigby", awwww) and had to witnessed all his girlfriends and one-night-stand. Of course he would feel insecure about their relationship, and it was even pitiful to see him accepting anything from Rigby. It didn't matter if Rigby wanted him as a 2nd choice, he would accept anything.
Of course it was all in his head, since Rigby wouldn't do that to his friend. Brennan was a treasure to Rigby. I loved the perfect amount of angst this book has, how one can hurt with Brennan, and also how much Rigby treasured his friend and lover. I also like that Rigby labeled himself as bi, most of the times, in gay-4-u books, the "straight" one can't believe he is "gay".
What I didn't love, and this one is a peeve of mine, is that both men are manwhores. Brennan had millions of one-night-stand with nameless guys, and Rigby had slept with at least half of the girls in college. I just want the guys in my mm romances to be decent guys, is that much to ask? But at least,
The short story in Book #3.5 is an excellent sequel, although I wish it was longer. As much as I see Rigby loving his friend, I am also like Brennan, still insecure after all that girls.
As with all of the books that I have read so far in this series, I liked the dual POV. However, it was hard to figure out who was talking sometimes. When I saw that this was shelved as BDSM, I expected a typical Kim Dare BDSM book. I think it fits this story though. There are a few D/s moments and one very light bondage scene. I would recommend this for someone who wants to try out a light BDSM book.
Brennan has been in love with his best friend and roommate, Rigby for years, but Rigby doesn't know, until Brennan lets his feelings show, after the start to tick things off Rigby's old to-do list. A beautiful, gay for you romance.
Of all the couples out there who have multiple books about them why, oh why, can't Rigby and Brennan be among them? I've read the short-story follow-up, but I'd really like to catch a glimpse of them a few years down the road (hint, hint if you read these reviews, Ms. Dare... even just a book with them as secondary characters that shows them later would be wonderful :-) - hey, a girl's gotta try, right?).
This book can be summed up thus: Rigby & Brennan; Brennan & Rigby. That's it. More can (and will) be said about it, but, really, it's just them.
Time to Do may be classified as GFY, but I think it's really LFY - Love For You. It isn't about loving men or loving women; it's about loving a person to the point that gender doesn't matter.
Rigby made his "to do" list because he wanted to understand Brennan and decided to follow the list to ease the awkwardness created by their kiss; he couldn't stand for there to be any distance or problems between them. Brennan agreed to go along with the list because it was his one chance (he thinks) to be with Rigby - he knows he'll never love anyone else and has to pack a lifetime's worth of memories into each list item.
I love that Rigby doesn't do the long, drawn-out "OMG - I'm hot for a GUY" thing (sometimes that's fun to read, but it's a nice switch-up not to have it); he knows it's because it is Brennan, not because he's attracted to men. I love that, when Brennan finally confesses the whole truth of his feelings, Rigby doesn't flip out; sure, he's shocked, but he immediately starts trying to find a way to make it right because, for Rigby, it HAS to be right for Brennan - everything else is just details. He never considers pushing Brennan away or ditching their friendship and gets pretty po'd at Brennan when he questions it. I love that Brennan feels every bit as protective towards Rigby as Rigby does towards him though in a more subtle way.
I know it sounds like all my love is for Rigby; it isn't - I adore Brennan; it's just that Rigby is the one who is new to all of this - being with a man, looking at Brennan in a new way (which he acknowledges really isn't new at all - just newly aware), and adjusting his views on forever, so his reactions to everything are in focus a lot more.
This is one that gets re-read a lot when I need a feel-good story.

Time To Do was a superb book with a fresh twist to an old storyline. Gay boy Brennan has been in love with his best friend and college roommate ever since he can remember. Falling in love with Rigby is how he figured out that he had a preference for boys in the first place.
When Bren finds a to-do list that Rigby made a long time ago he begins to wonder if his best friend is as straight as he thinks. This to-do list has 'Have Sex With a Guy' written very clearly on it with a sub-section of other things to do with gay sex.
Bren gets up the courage to kiss Rigby which turns into several days of complete awkwardness between them which in turn morphs into Rigby suggesting and Bren agreeing to go through the to-do list to get it out of Rig's system to get them back to normal. Rigby is comfortable in his hetero status and feels that this is the way for him to take care of Bren in the way that he has always done.
When Rigby starts to fall for Bren, he comes to grips pretty easily with the fact that because he enjoys his time with Bren almost more than he ever enjoyed his time with girls that makes him bi.
Bren has a hard time accepting this. He's only ever had one night stands in the back rooms of gay bars in the next town over and always came home to Rigby. There are several misunderstandings between the boys and when Rigby makes Bren admit that he's been in love with him for years, Rig decides that he needs to fix this and that he wants to fix it by being with Bren full time.
Bren has an even harder time with this decision because he doesn't want to let Rigby break his heart when he decides that it's time to go back to his happy hetero ways. Rigby is the only guy with the ability to break Bren's heart and Rigby doesn't know what else he can do to make Bren realize that he is the only place Rig wants to be.
What the author does with this story is turn it around to make the gay boy the insecure one when it's usually the straight boy who has a hard time. I'm hooked and can't wait to get my hands on more books from her!
I loved these boys so much and hated to see the story end!
Brennan and Rigby have been friends since elementary school and are now roommates at university. Rigby is fine with Brennan being gay though he’s straight and he has always felt the need to take care of Brennan. One day while cleaning Brennan finds a “to do” list of Rigby’s which has “kiss a guy” and other guy sex things on it. He has been in love with Rigby for years hiding it but suddenly kisses him. Rigby doesn’t freak and decides he wants to try other things on the list. Brennan tries to put him off knowing he’s in for a broken heart when Rigby goes back to the ladies but being in love he just can’t say no. There is some angst as Brennan is always waiting for Rigby to change his mind yet admits he’s pathetic enough to take what he can get from Rigby even if it’s only a quick hand job because he can’t get a girl. I’d say Rigby does most of the developing here, he admits to himself that he enjoys what they are doing, and that maybe his image of Brennan was not quite right. He feels that the nameless faceless guys Brennan hooks up with in bars are taking advantage of him but then realizes maybe it’s the other way. It takes some major convincing for Brennan to believe that Rigby wants to date him and be with him and I’m not sure at the end he really believed it. As with most Kim Dare stories there is an element of D/s, with Brennan an acknowledged sub who visits leather bars and wishes Rigby were a dom which they kind of get into near the end, but not in a big way. It was a good story of two friends finally getting together and I could understand Brennan’s fear that he’d be second best someday.
The whole romantic relationship seems like a negotiation to me rather than something natural and built on emotions... Also, yes these characters are best friends, but I only know that because it is stated that they are best friends. I would have liked to have been shown this rather than told this
Also there are some dominance/submissive and bondage elements to this as well. Rigby: " You belong to me. I, in a completely different way belong to you." hmm.. I am not into reading about bondage or dominance/submissive things, i don't like that. Even though the dominance/submissive stuff may be mild compared to other works. And in terms of dominant/submissive characters, the 20 year old characters seemed to have text-book knowledge about what it means to be dominant and submissive in sexual relations which I'm not sure is that believable... Maybe I'm naive.
But there are also some surprisingly poignant lines here as well. But unfortunately Rigby's sweet words get muffled by Brennan's annoying and unwavering doubts about their relationship. Brennan says he has been in love with Rigby for years, but he keeps protesting over and over when Rigby says he wants to be with him and date him... Umm, why would Brennan protest? Are you kidding? And then the classic misunderstandings... And then Rigby's sweetness is snuffed out by his domineering talk...Yada, Yada, Yada...
Basically I took a chance on this one and it didn't pay off. I did not find it sweet or romanic in any sense. I wasn't into it and have liked a lot more friends-to-lovers more than this one. Way more.
Not all books are designed to be realistic- and this wasn't realistic.
2 guys- 1 straight, 1 gay- best friends since children. Brennan has been in love with his straight best friend for years and has never made a move... until he finds Rigby's list
It's not likely that a straight man is going to want to make a list of things he would like to try- and add sex with another man as one of those things to do
I enjoyed this book and it didn't take me long to get through the 108 pages because I do love a good 'friends to lovers' book
But I can't give this 4 or 5 stars because I didn't feel the love. I felt it to be slightly clinical when they discussed their next move and that the relationship was forced? I felt that Rigby mothered Brennan too much for it to be a hot romance. It takes a lot of time and effort for Brennan to believe that Rigby is actually interested in him as more than a 'back- up' or 'experiment' and i'm not convinced that he was convinced even when the book finished- and I can't say I blame him. His best friends suddenly 'bi' sexual preference was sort of out of the blue.
Don't take my word for it though- try the book if you are up for reading a short, unrealistic but hot book
2.5 stars. Brennan is surprised when he finds "have sex with a man" on his best friend's to-do-list. If that's what Rigby wants, Brenn -- who's been secretly in love with Rigby for years -- is more than happy to be his experiment. He kisses Rigby, and you know it, Rigby loves it.
I had a hard time getting into this one. At one point, I thought it was going to be a DNF. Too much sex, and I felt Rigby was taking advantage of Brenn. I was also very tired of talk about that damn list. I wanted them to throw it away already.
Then about halfway through, things began to turn around. More of the sweetness shined through, and Rigby realized he was acting no better than Brenn's bar hookups. But then all of Brenn's insecurities also came out. Every other minute he thought Rigby was cheating on him with a girl or that he couldn't possibly be Rigby's first choice. That got old too. There was a little dom/sub action here, but Brenn didn't seem like a sub. But what do I know? I don't usually read BDSM books.
Rigby grew on me. I liked his possessive side and the way he handled Brenn's insecurities. He had zero angst about being bi. It's hard to believe he never questioned his sexuality before. What straight man puts "sex with a man" in writing on a to-do list?
Okay, so it came as no surprise to me that I loved this book. As soon as I read the blurb: Kim Dare writing a friends-to-lovers! I knew I'd love it. My only question is how it took me so long to hear about this book!
I loved both Rigby and Brennan. Their friendship seemed believable, and I loved getting to read about that friendship developing into something more.
I think my absolute favorite thing about the book is that Rigby doesn't immediately discount all of his years of enjoying sex with women and declare that he's now officially gay for his best friend. I liked that he chose to call himself bisexual and that he was introspective enough to discover that it was likely his close friendship with Brennan that kept him from discovering the second half of his bi-sexuality earlier. And I cannot say how much I loved that Rigby was able to fit in the "No, but my boyfriend is" line when asked if he was gay. I think that line alone would have earned this book five stars from me.
I loved also that Brennan struggled so much to believe the Rigby was really serious. It made the whole story seem much more believable to me.
Yes, it is hard sometimes to swallow (no pun intended) gay for you stories but if anyone can get it right it is author Kim Dare. Time to do is the story of two best friends, one gay (Brennan), one straight (Rigby) and how both are unable to communicate exactly how they feel about the other. But it's Rigby's to do list that spurs both to action--actually it is one item on the list --the one that says have sex with a guy. And so begins an incredible little story of two friends who tick off one to do item after another all the while falling deeply in love. Yes, yes gay for you--hard to imagine--I'm sure it is... but this sweet little story takes you there and then some. I really enjoyed this novella. The characters were so like-able. You longed for them to be together--for Rigby to commit himself one way or another and as usual Ms. Dare delivers. Known for her BDSM overtones, Ms. Dare gives this one a very light touch so no worries if you are not into that element--this one is sweet and loving all the way. A must read for Dare fans!
Something about this book just hit me in all the right places. I think because I can be a huge sucker for GFY romances if they are done correctly.
Rigby and Brennan have been best friends forever and are now roommates at college. Brennan has been in love with Rigby since he's come out of the closet, but Rigby is as straight as a ruler. While cleaning their room, Brennan comes across a "to-do" list that changes the rules forever. The words "have sex with a man" make Brennan realize that Rigby may not be as unattainable as he always thought.
I thought that this was a cute idea, but what I really liked the most was Rigby and the way he handled his relationship with his best friend Brennan. You can really feel how deep their friendship goes when Rigby is willing to seriously re-evaluate his entire life rather than hurt his best friend.
This was really adorable and didn't really fit in with the rest of this series as there wasn't as much D/s or BDSM as the others. Yes, it was definitely touched upon, but it was very light and easygoing. This was my favorite book of the series.
Hmm... Maybe it's not real 5, but rather 4,5 stars. I'm not sure. When I found this novel, I was hesitant. This is Kim Dare, seriously! I know what kind of stories she creates. I'm not into BDSM in my books, so I avoid her work. But there is "gay for you" theme, so I was ready to try. I'm a real sucker for it (I mean, "gay for you" storyline.), when it's done well. And... Guess what?! In my opinion, it's done really good. In addition, we can find here "friends to lovers" motive, which I also adore. There's only a hint of D/s element and, for me, that was a good thing. Brennan and Rigby were hot, sexy and damn cute. I love them. Ok, so this story wasn't perfect, I know that. But, hey, it's romancelandia. It's not about perfection, it's about love.
Rigby is a asshole and a egocentric man. He ask to have sex with his gay friend, just because he want to try gay sex and since his best friend is gay, since he can never say No to him, why not have sex with him , without taking in consideration if HE want to have sex with him. He act as is gay man always want to have sex. Or with him. Or...
Brennan is pathetic is in acceptance of the situation. Lack of backbone.
I can't put in on my sexcontent-BDSM lifestyle since this element id only explored at the end of the book and add to that the lack of constancy of Brennan (he is supposed to be submissive but don't act and think like one).
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Very sweet and enjoyable brief novella about a gay university student who has been in love with his ‘straight’ roommate since childhood.
Brennan stumbles across Rigby’s “To Do” list of sexual experiences he wants to have while in college. Brennan is startled to see that it includes “Kiss a guy,” and more. Against both of their better judgments, the two find themselves working together to tick items off the list.
The outcome is predictable, but it was a fun journey to get there. Playful sex scenes, just the right amount of angst over whether Rigby is only experimenting or feeling something more, and a nice emphasis on the solid friendship and trust between the characters.
