This very practical, how-to text provides the beginning researcher with the basics of applied behavior analysis research methods. In 10 logical steps, this text covers all of the elements of single-subject research design and it provides practical information for designing, implementing, and evaluating studies. Using a pocketbook format, the authors provide novice researcher with a "steps-for-success" approach that is brief, to-the-point, and clearly delineated.
A fantastic guide for anyone pursuing research in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). The book is divided into three sections: 1) What is ABA? 2) Research method in ABA and 3) Going Public with your research. Each section is equally crucial to one's success in research. The first section discusses the core tenets of ABA including advice on using the book effectively. I agree with the authors' recommendation: to read the whole book in one succession and then revise chapters on a need basis. The second section is the largest and discusses in detail (with references) the ten steps for successful research. I thoroughly enjoyed this section and gained important insights for effective research methods. The third section is the shortest in length and reiterates the importance of carrying out ethical & effective research: for clinical & social importance - not just for a publication. Techniques about presenting one's research are given in the last chapter.
Bailey & Burch have done an amazing job with this book - presenting the material in a coherent way, making it easier to understand and follow. I will definitely be reading parts of this book as my research progresses.
