Daughters of Fortune series is my absolute favourite book series! It holds a very special place in my heart as it was one of the first fiction books I have read. I love WWII era historical, romance books and Judith Pella did a supreme job of giving her readers a glimpse into World War II. The reader is taken to Russia, United States and the Philippines and follows along with three different storylines. I especially loved the first and second book, Written on the Wind and Somewhere a Song.
I totally love her portrayal of the three sisters- they have fiercely strong, independent, kick-butt characters, yet each of them have a breaking point and lean on each other and their faith to get through dangerous and hard times. Cameron, Jackie, and Blair go through very difficult circumstances and each have their own individual faith and romance journey. I am very particular about how accurate the historical books are that I read, but Judith Pella did an astounding job in accurately bringing to life history.
Daughter of Fortune series is emotionally packed, exciting, eye-opening, suspenseful, heartrending, and addictive! A must read!
This series will always hold an special in my heart as the first real adult books I've ever read, and they still prove to be a wonderful and engaging glimpse into almost every aspect of World War II. The first time I really became aware of the way Japanese Americans were treated in the US during this period of its history was through Jackie’s story, her interactions with Blair in Homeward My Heart very hard but satisfying at the same time to read. I also loved how a solid friendship was developed between Jackie and Sam before either had any idea of it's turning to romantic love.
Although the wide scope employed by this series into the different issues which permeated World War II is impressive, from the home-front, to the Holocaust, to the situation in the Philippines, my favourite story lines will always be those situated in Russia. Inspiring a fervent interest in all things Russian from its history to its people, something I still carry with me today, Alex Rostov set the bar high for every damaged, gorgeous, passionate and noble fictional hero to follow, and the progression of his relationship with Cameron is a true testament to the power of love, faith and hope in seemingly impossible circumstances. As star-crossed as two people could be, the strength of their devotion towards one another left me captivated. I equally enjoyed her kick-butt, no-nonsense, vulnerable, stubborn attitude which not once went down the path of radical feminism. Getting to catch up with the Fedorcenko family from Pella's earlier The Russians series is an added bonus, with Sophia providing wonderfully sweet friendship and support to the always on her guard Cameron.
Emotionally satisfying, immersive, eye-opening, exciting, and addictive, these are just a few words that don't even scratch the surface of this wonderful series; you won't be sorry you read it!!
This is a great historical/religious fiction that follows the lives of 3 sisters during WWII. It covers the war in both Europe and the Pacific. The author, Judith Pella, also co-wrote the series, "The Russians."
I really enjoyed these four books. They take place during World War II and are Christian Historical Fiction-I like books of that genre. It didn't take me long to read them and I thought they were well written, Judith Pella is a great author. I really liked these books.
