A listing of albums by artist, exhaustively cross referenced by the musicians who perform on them. A great way to find works by your favorite musicians who may have played on other peoples albums you were not even aware of. I wore out two paperback copies of this as a kid, before lucking across a hardback at a library sale. Super out of date at this point, but still cool. Is there anything like this on the internet? Allmusic doesn't even come close.
A highly recommended book for browsing and for reference. Massive amount of information, Terry's "New Rock Record" series takes you back to pre-Internet times, when a book like this was really the one and only way that you could ferret out information about past record releases, with thorough listings of releases for bands and solo artists from around the world plus an index at the back linking musicians to each artist they had recorded with. The content is essentially raw data - bands, LP releases, catalogue numbers and musican credits. There's no reviews or illustrations, so anyone expecting them would surely be disappointed.
This is the first of the "New Rock Record" editions and contains info up to 1980. In later editions, a variety of fonts were used and even songs for some (not all) albums.
If you want to know details on who played what instruments on what albums by different groups, what year they were released.....record label.....catalog number, or want to discover new music....then this is highly recommended......this book is responsible for helping me find artists and albums I otherwise never would have heard.
