Trish Morey always fancied herself a writer, but was sternly advised that she better better think about getting a real job instead. Which Trish figures must be why she spent her university years washing dishes in a Chinese restaurant by night and picking gherkins for an Adelaide Hills primary producer by day. (Enough to put you off "real jobs" for life).

It was another twelve years, an accounting career and two babies on that Trish once again turned her mind to writing. it was a further eleven years (and two more babies:)) before Trish sold her first book to Harlequin Presents, and her dream of being a published author came true.

Some forty books later, Trish is now an award winning and USA Today Bestselling Author of some 40+ books. Trish still loves writing romance but these days combines it with all the fun, drama and sisterhood of women, family and girlfriends.

When she’s not out traveling the world in search of inspiration for her stories, Trish lives with her husband, Daisy their over enthusiastic Cavoodle pup, Daisy, and Leo, their very old and totally unenthusiastic cat, down on the glorious South Coast of South Australia where the waves crash over the granite rocks and splash upon the golden sands.

Trish reckons she has the best job in the world.

Umm, no. There was very little romance here. I did not see the connection between these two. MofC that develops into love via sex. It's hard to even buy the reason for the marriage contract anyway as it is almost as bloodless as their relationship.

And spoiler...

Oh yeah, the H wears a thong. A thong! Um, yuck.

This did nothing for me!
No actually kinda made me sick!
You THINK your husband went to bed with another woman on your wedding night yet you fall in bed with him??? Look no judgement if you decide to forgive him and want to give your marriage a chance? But may be talk about it first? Going to bed with a cheater is disgusting and I can't deal with a heroine without any self respect!

Another marriage of convenience story which has to be one of my favorite themes. Domenic is a hotel tycoon who wants to settle down and marry so as to please his parents. He decides to save Opal's business by investing but only if she marries him. After witnessing her mother's unhappiness in her marriage, Opal had never planned to get married or fall in love. She is strong and dedicated to her work but indifferent to men and even to Domenic. But the hero won't give up. He will win her heart and break down all her defenses.

Loved both the hero and the heroine. Their chemistry was deep and powerful. Opal's relationship with Domenic's parents was also sweet and touching. Trish Morey is amazing!

The heroine Opal is hoping that she can convince the hero Domenic to invest in her hotel business. Although the hotels are successful she has been left with some tax debts from her father and she doesn't want to have to sell her women's shelter. Domenic is interested in Opal's business deal as well as being very intrigued by Opal herself. He has been getting pressure from his family to marry and settle down so he offers Opal the deal of him investing in her business if she marries him. After witnessing her mother's unhappiness in her marriage, Opal had never planned to get married. But she agrees only for the chance to save her business and knows that she will never fall for Domenic as he will no doubt continue with his playboy lifestyle. This seems true when he leaves her on their wedding night after telling her that he wants an heir as soon as possible. When he returns they begin to get to know one another and Opal finds she begins to trust him, as well as finally giving in to the fierce desire between them. However she never lets him too close, which Domenic finds frustrating, as she is afraid that it won't be long before he hurts her.

I enjoyed this book, it has a nice blend of tenderness and traditional romance novel elements. However there were a few 'holes' in the story and certain parts that really dragged it down. Opal is a really well developed heroine; independent, clever and strong - right up until the moment she sleeps with the hero. She is under the impression that he spent their wedding night with another woman yet she gives herself totally to him, this seems at complete odds to her character and I couldn't really warm to her after this. The subplot of Opal's mother being found was introduced far too late that it had no real effect on the plot and didn't really seem worth it. I also found that I didn't understand Domenic's motivations, especially in relation to his feelings for Opal. His POV was non-existent after the first chapter or so.

However despite all that, I enjoyed this book. The writing is flawless and the development of the relationship is nicely done.

Not perfect, but an OK read.

Oh dear! This was awful. I’m not sure which bit I disliked most.

First the totally implausible and unbelievable premise for their marriage. If we’re going to have forced marriages or marriages of convenience please let’s make the premise believable.

Secondly, self respect. Opal believes her husband went off and had sex with Emma on their wedding night but goes and has sex with him anyway. It turned out At the very end of the book that the husband had in fact not had sex with the other woman but Opal believed he had and yet still allowed him to make love to her. Yuck!

Thirdly the mother and the most impossible, incredible and implausible reconciliation scene at the end of the book. The mother abandoned as the children and they think she’s dead and she makes no attempt to get in touch. She may have had valid reasons, understandable reasons, but I don’t believe for one moment that Opal would have forgiven her so swiftly and so freely as she does in the book.

Finally why Nurse would the hero be in love and stay in love with the awful heroine Who treated him like shit for most of the book.

I’ve had several of the sources books and there’s no doubt about it she can write. However, I hate books based on misunderstandings, miscommunication and issues which could be dealt with by having a simple conversation.

Sadly this seems to be this authors favourite tropes. Not for me.

Rambling Disappointment

Thin plot, no real connection between the main characters, and unbelievable plot twist at the of the story. I kept skipping pages, hoping it would pick up speed. It didn’t.

Opal, who is apparently not so smart at business, makes a desperate bid from having her enemy buy out her hotel by pointing out her business's vulnerability to another competitor, Domenic Silvagni. She expects him to be cooperative and agree to owning less than 50% when, if he walks away and just buys the business (like her enemy) he could own 100%. So I'm not sure what she was hoping to get there, but he decides to make an adjustment - he'll take 49% if she agrees to marry him (and he sneaks in the part about giving him an heir at the last minute, which she conveniently doesn't read in the contract). So she ends up married to a guy who blackmailed her into it and worse, he's a playboy...and she sees her mother's situation all over again and she despairs. Meanwhile, Domenic is counting his lucky stars - an attractive, passionate woman who his parents approve of. Who cares if she doesn't like being blackmailed?

I had trouble with this one, mostly because it's so depressing to read about a heroine who clearly has no self-respect. Yes, she had little choice but to marry him once she'd painted herself in her little corner, but she never made any demands for herself. She stops telling herself that she was forced into it and says, well, at least I have my hotel. Then she thinks he's having an affair. Well, at least he's being discreet. Then she gets pregnant and he's all about the baby (and she's reminded that she was a broodmare). Well, at least he'll be a good father. Honestly, she doesn't set any limits for herself. She has one token argument where she reminds Domenic that he FORCED her into this role and suggests she might still be bitter about it, but that's forgotten real quick. And worse, Domenic never really apologized for it. At one point, he says how he realized how being forced into marriage must have hurt her - so did he apologize or in any way acknowledge that she was valuable or more than a contract? No...he goes out and finds her supposedly dead mother (which was another weird situation, let me tell you.) Even after she goes off the deep end about their relationship just being a contract and their baby a fulfilled clause within it, he doesn't take the hint and doesn't apologize... Domenic wasn't exactly an asshole...other than his rampant lust taking over his acknowledging his new wife has feelings, he was actually somewhat nice to her. But he needed to acknowledge that his actions were wrong and she needed to stand up for herself a lot more! Also, the love between these two was straight up lust...didn't feel like they'd fallen in love.

I read these novels so out of order it isn't even funny but I have to say I liked and overall enjoyed the second novel better than this one. Although the dominant hero in this one is the reason that the rating is so high. *blushes*
