West of Scotland Health Board, Glasgow. Basic physics as pertains to anesthesia for trainees and examination candidates in anesthesia and intensive care.
I originally bought this book quite a while ago when I wasn't so sure I'd get into anaesthesia and didn't want to commit to a too large book, instead looking for something for the technical aspects on anaesthesia and assembling pharmacology/physiology/etc from books I already had. With this book you'll get exactly what it says on the cover: Explanations on basic physics, measurements and technology used in anaesthesia. It's solid science and that's about it. It's not exceptional, novel or ground breaking. For someone who'll eventually buy a more all-encompassing book on anaesthesiology this might be somewhat of a waste of money. If you mainly need something to understand the underlying physics of anaesthesiology and its technology and patient monitoring this is the book for you.
The main problem why I don't see this as a "must have" for any anaesthesiologist is the price: I was expected to dish out 60€ for the current edition and comparing what it has to offer to that price makes it look ridiculous. I've paid half the money for (standard reference) books three times the size and content. I still feel a mild sense of disappointment when I think about that now.
