The Mayan Prophecy 2012: The Mayan Calendar and the end of time

Rate this book
It is only in the last 100 years that many of the mysteries of the Maya people of Central America have been revealed. And perhaps the greatest mystery of all has been the #8216;Long Count#8217; calendar that started its last great cycle on August 11, 3113 BCE and will come to an end 5125 years and 132 days later, on the winter solstice of 2012. While we now know that the Maya were brilliant mathematicians and astonishingly accurate astronomers, is it possible that they also possessed an almost supernatural foresight based on the understanding of natural cycles? Could such a civilization #8211; which flourished over a thousand years ago #8211; really have predicted the end of the Earth#8217;s current civilization in the second decade of the third millennium CE?pThis fascinating book provides a step-by-step guide to understanding and decoding the Mayan calendar and examines the scientific evidence that suggests solar flares, magnetic field changes and other potentially disastrous natural phenomena may well occur in 2012. BDavid Douglas/B explores what such an event will really mean for us by delving into both the lost wisdom of the ancient Maya and sharing the perspective of spiritual leaders from the contemporary Mayan world who believe 2012 can provide a focus for the renewal of ourselves and the planet.p

Steve Alten is one my favourite authros. This trilogy is very unique and very imaginative. Altin uses real life circumstances of life that considered to be quackery, he has also used Erich von Dänikens theories which is far more interesting than Stephen Hawkins theories.
Steve is a very eloquent writer also, that combined with his imagination makes for an entertaining read.
I very much liked the characters he created in this book, especially Lillith. I enjoyed spotting the myths he uses to bring into the reality of his story.

For anyone looking for introductory course on the Mayans and all known myths surrounding them should start here. David Douglas does a good job of bringing together many theories from experts of all walks of life to give you a look into the Mayan Prophecy approaching Dec. 21st, 2012. The Mayans are presented in a way that proves they weren't primitive people but fine observers of space and nature..
