Pride, Pancakes, & Paris

Rate this book
While finishing up her last year of college, Georgia Clark is busy spending her time with sixteen-year-old environmental science students. But when Sawyer Owens shows up with a free ticket to Paris, France, Georgia is forced to consider taking an actual break. While her best friend's brother is inviting her to attend a fully funded destination wedding, there is one little catch. Georgia is going to have to pretend to be Sawyer's girlfriend. None of that would be a big deal if it weren't for one unfortunate piece of information: Sawyer and Georgia hate each other.

I know they say you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover but I gravitated towards the colors plus loved the catchy title… add in stuff your kindle day to the mix and it was a no brainer. I’m so glad I picked it up! Georgia goes with her enemy Sawyer as his fake wedding date in Paris the city of love whats the worst that could happen… ahhh the banter, the tension and all the feelings… seriously the slow burn was worth it and I enjoyed the HEA.

I’m not one for Rom Coms, and I’m very picky about my female main characters. For me a bad female lead can ruin a book faster than a speeding ticket.

This book surprised me in so many ways. I liked the main character even though she was a little emotional. I couldn’t wait to read chapter after chapter, following our odd enemies to lovers in Paris. We also got a lovely and supportive sibling relationship which I think is really lacking in fiction.

I laughed, got that happy achey chest feeling, and got angry. Any time a writer can pull genuine emotion from me I am here for it.

Definitely add this one to your beach or airplane read list you won’t be sorry.

3 stars | 2 spice

If you are looking for a rom-com with a little bit of spice that's giving both enemies-to-lovers as well as best friend's brother, then look no further.

Personally, for me this book was your average rom-com. Easy to read, had some funny parts that had me laughing and also a bit of spice. It kept me entertained though the entire story but I will say the ending did feel a bit rushed in terms of how easy it was for them to make up. I felt like that could of dragged out for a few more chapters and had me nervous about if things were going to work out or not.

If you are a rom-com fan then you will probably love this one. But for me it felt too similar to a lot of other rom-coms I have read in the past that all end up blending together in my head until I am not sure which one was which.

Sorry, we all know I need to do this. There’s a huge fucking elephant in the room and it needs addressing.

This book was really enjoyable, a nice chill chick lit with miscommunication tropes (my least fave) and enemies to lovers/best friends sibling tropes. There was decent chemistry, Paris is always a winner. It was never gonna be a 5 star but I was having a nice time and it was a solid 3 stars. There was a smattering of spice, not too much and not too little, I enjoyed the writing style. Then all of a sudden there was an absolutely insane gear shift that was completely unnecessary. One minute she has his dick in her mouth and literally like 2 pages later they’re sat in a hospital after a family emergency that came out of absolutely nowhere and did not even serve the plot.

I just cannot even. It’s one of the most frustrating plot choices I’ve ever seen. It was like the author just went “man, I’ve written about Paris and they’ve fallen in love but I have a couple of thousands words left that I need to write”. I just didn’t get it. It didn’t serve to bring anyone closer, everyone was fine already. I just cannot think of another possible reason that this would just get chucked in at 88% WTF.

Oh and don’t get me started on the epilogue. I swear these two are meant to be in their mid-20s and yet suddenly a year later he not only OWNS a restaurant that he appears to have built from scratch in that year but it’s also so successful that he can pay for them to fuck off to Paris. Stop it 😂🙄

it’s been a while since i’ve read a true hate to love romance. they HATED each other and it was beautiful. I got this book on a stuff your kindle day because I love pride and prejudice and have read a few spin offs but this was the perfect balance of inspired by.

eeks
- loveable main characters
- the plot was very enticing for me, enemies/hate-to-lovers, fake dating, and best friends brother
- the tension, the banter, the love, amazing!
pride and prejudice references that didn’t make me cringe

icks
- I sometimes felt like important scenes were missing or cut short
- the entire last 10% of the plot felt entirely out of pocket and was incredibly rushed

the book moved at a decent pace, but the ending was incredibly rushed. it’s nothing groundbreaking but one of the better kindle unlimited/stuff your kindle books i’ve read.

What’s it about?
Georgia hates her best friend’s brother, Sawyer. He’s always been a jerk and she wants nothing to do with him. But then she gets the opportunity to go to Paris for free! There’s just one catch: she has to go with Sawyer, and pretend to be his girlfriend for a wedding.

Soon their mutual dislike for the other dissolves as they tour the city, take cooking classes, and fake it through the wedding events.

My thoughts:

This romcom is adorable. I’m always here for a good enemies to lovers, fake dating story. Toss in Parish and a chef / teacher couple and I’m all the way there.

This book also has a helping of spice a strong emphasis on family.

A great read, guaranteed to make you smile and swoon.

As someone who struggles to enjoy romcoms and actually went into starting this book by dragging my feet (sorry, Emma), I found this book an absolute delight and would read more from this genre if they provided the same humor and romance without all the cheesiness. Containing beloved tropes such as fake dating, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, best friend's brother (to name a few)-- PPP had me actually laughing out loud and waking my husband one moment and then overcome with *cough* desire the next. Much like an Emily Henry book, this novel provided heart and humor and I cannot wait to read more from Holland. Split POV’s and it does not disappoint.

Emerson
Georgia : in school to be environmental science teacher
Sawyer

Georgia and Emerson are room mates. Emerson’s brother is sawyer who is a Sioux chef. Georgia is a student teacher and is in school to be an environmental science teacher. Emerson loves to sing. That’s how they find themselves in this moment. Emerson is singing tonight and Georgia and sawyer are there to watch her. It is then that his Paris trip gets brought up and the fact his girlfriend Anna broke up with him and he plans to go alone but hasn’t told his friend and instead lied to say everything was fine in hopes him and Anna would fix things. But now he’s worried he’s going to show up alone and bring his relationship issues right into his friends lap. When he brings up the ticket already being paid for, Emerson suggests that Georgia should go with him. Georgia and Emerson are enemies. From the moment they met and argued over store bought versus his home made cookies they have always picked on eachother and been rivals. But Georgia is struggling to see the flaws in a paid trip and stay in Paris for 10 days. So she tentatively says yes. He comes to see her at work for the confirmation and this is when he slips up that she’ll need to pretend to be his girlfriend at the wedding. This is a big ask but it’s still a basically free trip to Paris so she agrees and he shocks her when he kisses her on the cheek and one of her students sees and she knows this will hit the gossip mill. When she tells her mom that she’s going her mom offers to send her $600 but is shocked she’s going with sawyer since they don’t get along. When sawyer venmoed Georgia for beer he said “feet pics” and her mother brings this up😂😂on the day for the flight he offers to pick her up to save her money and she steals the window seat for the flight. He sleeps the whole flight and when she gets there she’s tired and hungry. He calls her a toddler. When she wakes up they’re supposed to meet Warren and Sadie for dinner. So they have to play off the boyfriend girlfriend thing. She finds herself fitting in with them. And they end up agreeing to go to a cooking class with them. He tells her he’ll pay because he had been saving for this trip versus how unplanned it was for her. They end up having a good time at the cooking class. Until he kisses her. And it’s the best kiss of both of their lives but he tells her he’s sorry for forcing her into a fake kiss. And then she’s upset because of how much she liked it. And at one point he tells her he hates her and so she goes off to explore Paris alone. When she comes back they start bickering again but then She tells him she wants to go see something and he agrees to go with her so she’s not alone and traveling Paris. But somewhere along the way they end up getting along. And admitting how much they liked the kiss. Somewhere between eating crepes and picking out lingerie for Sadie they find themselves flirting. I can’t remember if it was before or after the wedding that they finally have sex (sorry it’s all a blur). And then they both agree they like eachother and that this is more. That they will go home and tell Emerson they are dating. Emerson figures it out before they get a chance to tell her. At family dinner the family is delighted. Sawyer brings her coffee to school and gets to meet some of her students, including miles. He knows how passionate she is about teaching and her students. And sees this when he visits her. Him and Georgia are having a date night and have sex and are in bed when Georgia gets a call from Emerson crying that their mom was in an accident with a drunk driver. She wakes sawyer up and they head to the hospital where his mom is in critical condition. The drunk driver was a child so his name isn’t being released but she was messaged that it was her student, miles. She keeps this information to herself but hates this feeling. Sawyer begins bashing the driver badly and finally she speaks up and tells him it was miles. He’s pissed and tells her she needs to go because he can’t have her on someone else’s side. They have a bit of a fight but she leaves. She’s devastated, she’s worried about his mother but also miles and how he’s handling this. Sawyer won’t speak to her besides to tell her to stay away and that he doesn’t want to see her. When miles is at school it’s hard on Georgia and she struggles for words to say to him. Sawyer and Emerson have a bit of a heart to heart and he agrees he needs to see Georgia. He realizes how far her compassion reaches and had missed her. And then they get called to come to the hospital for good news for once. And when they say only family is allowed back he tells her she is family. The doctor is proud to say how well she recovered. The epilogue is 1 year later. Sawyer gets Georgia in a photo booth where he shows her tickets for them to go to Paris. What she and nobody but his mother knows is he has a ring for this trip and plans to propose in Paris. It ends with them taking some scandalous photo booth pics. And him telling her he paid for the Paris trip with her feet pics. I really enjoyed this book. I actually met this author at cozy and bookish market 2023, and loved her. And this book just looked too cute to pass up. If you’re taking a trip to Paris, or dating a Sioux chef, or a student teacher, love enemies to lovers, love macarons, pancakes, Paris, or just a cute romcom, this is the book for you. I found myself giggling out loud multiple times. I also am now realizing I totally skipped the pancake scene which seems important for the title. He planned a date where they created their own pancake flavors. And she made pb&j while he made s’mores and she told him they both made child flavors. I think that’s the night they played the games before they found out about his mom. Either way. Super cute book. I’m glad the fight didn’t last long at all and was really just a moment of needing space.

I read this book as an audiobook via Audible. It was narrated by Andria Mae and Josh Putnam.

Not enemies to lovers, but not friends to lovers either. It's that cliché Best Friend's Sibling bit, but it worked. Even when Sawyer made a bad decision in sending Georgia away from the hospital, he had a moment of compassion for her position but decided to stay in his anger anyway. It was refreshingly normal.

As a contemporary romance in a modern, real-world setting, a lot of work is done in world building, but Holland sprinkles in enough details of Paris and Georgia's school, the hospital, Georgia & Emmerson's apartment, that you fell like you are right there beside them.

I liked how the author developed the insult banter between Georgia & Sawyer. Reminded me of a couple of my past relationships. The good parts that is, which made the plot move forward at a nice pace. I was certainly intrigued by the nasty event and how the conflict of interest really played into the conflict between the characters. The Brother/Sister bond was beautiful as well. Everything was a logical playout & frankly was a much needed palate cleanser for me. Also the narrators were phenomenal. I love Andria's voice and how she gives these women's voices just the right level of vulnerability & strength. Josh, it's nice to meet you.

Emma Steinbrecher has done it again!🙌🏻
I loved every page of this novel. Holy-freaking-hell! I never wanted to put it down!

I absolutely loved that Sawyer enjoyed pushing Georgia’s buttons. Their banter was magnificent 😈

I was cackling so hard during Sawyers sexually restrained inner dialogue. Which, speaking of sexual restraint. The tension between them was so good! 🤌🏻

Every 👏🏼Time 👏🏼 Sawyer 👏🏼Had 👏🏼To 👏🏼Readjust 👏🏼Himself 👏🏼

I wanted to scream like a teenage girl during all of the tension! Oh my gosh, the slow burn was so well put together. Their little “game” of feeling each other out. 😍💀

Drunk Georgia is the best BTW.

And honestly, you learn something new every day. Like the fact that Emma by Jane Austen is a movie and I’m a sucker for Jane Austen and I HAD NO IDEA THAT ONE BECAME A MOVIE SO NOW IM GOING TO GO WATCH IT. Thank you, author. 😏

“You fucked my brother, didn’t you?” I was wheezing so hard! That was the line where I laughed the hardest. I devishly thought, I’d fuck your brother too. 😏 kekekeke

Pride, Pancakes, & Paris is a complete masterpiece. Go throw your money and get yourself a copy. I’m definitely getting myself a hard copy to grace my shelves.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book! It has everything I want: romance, fake dating, enemies to lovers, wit (I was chuckling every other page I swear), and it was a breeze to read. I read it in one sitting. I stayed up until 330am reading on a work night…I’m a professional.

But seriously I can’t recommend this book enough. I received it as a ARC and I feel like I need to pay for it. Like I may retroactively send her money because I loved it that much.

Favorite scenes: The hand holding at Versailles Palace I DIED IT WAS SO CUTE and them watching Pride and Prejudice together. Ugh! I’m a sucker for tension and witty banter and this author serves both on a silver, Parisian platter.

And it gives so much! It is Amy Sherman-Palladino in the best way. It’s giving “I loathe you!” “I loathe you first” kiss scene in Princess Diaries 2 vibes. It truly deserves a classic early 2000’s rom com movie montage trailer, and like Kate Hudson would have played Georgia and young Tom Welling can be Sawer.

The writing was excellent. I highlighted a few lines. Several lines were highlighted. I highlighted so much. Too much. The whole book is highlighted now. I love her way with words. Now I am her fan girl. Forever I stan, Emmie. In Emmie we trust.

Favorite quote: too many to pick one. Read this book.

"I am a murderer."
That's the first sentence of this book. It sounds dramatic, right? But honestly, this is the start of a VERY funny book.
I couldn't stop laughing 🤣 Even my hubby laughed because I told him a few of the scenes 😎 This is an enemies-to-lovers par excellence. Hilarious. Really, they couldn't hate each other more. And when Emerson (Georgia's best friend, roommate, and Sawyer's sister) suggested that he take Georgia to his best friend's wedding in Paris, OMG... 🤣 They are so crazy. I don't think I say too much when I say that they realize that the other one is hot 🙈 They hated each other for 4 years and didn't even realize it? I love it. But Paris (the city of love), a wedding, and a hotel room with only one bed... Who would think they didn't fall in love with each other? The banter is so f*cking good. As I said, I couldn't stop laughing.
There is a little tiny "break" shortly before the happy end.

This was my first read by Emmie. But surely not my last. I'm so excited to read her next book "A Bucket List Birthday" coming on April, 2nd 🤩

This book was SO GOOD!!! 🫶🏻✨

I am a Sawyer Owens simp for life now 🤪 this man had me kicking my feet and giggling every other page 🥰😂

After Sawyer gets broken up with, he ends up needing to find someone to go with him to his best friend’s destination wedding in Paris, France since his plus one was already paid for by his friend’s family. Sawyer’s sister, Emerson, suggests Georgia goes with him since she needs a vacation from her everyday life and can’t afford a ticket home to see her family for spring break. Only problem is, Georgia and Sawyer can’t stand each other and they have to pretend they’re dating around Sawyer’s friends…. and share a hotel room with only one bed 🤩

The banter is EVERYTHINGGGGGGG!!! I could not put this book down! The tension and the way they both think about each other is just chef’s kiss! 🤌🏻🩵

The writing was so good and I did not want to stop reading! I HAD to know what was going to happen between Georgia and Sawyer 😂 The chemistry was off the charts I absolutely loved it and would recommend to everyone that loves rom coms and the fake dating trope! 🥰✨

Pride, Pancakes, and Paris had all the right ingredients for a charming romance—fake dating, Parisian vibes, and plenty of banter. The setup was fun, and I enjoyed the chemistry between Georgia and Sawyer once they started warming up to each other. The descriptions of Paris and the food were a delightful touch!

However, the first third of the book was a struggle. The characters were more frustrating than entertaining, with Georgia and Sawyer being a little too mean to each other for my taste. It took too long for their dynamic to shift into something believable, making it hard to root for them at first. The second half improved, but I wish the emotional development had felt more natural throughout.

Overall, it's a decent read with some cute moments, but it didn’t fully win me over. I wouldn't rush to reread it, but I'd still check out more from this author in the future

Pride, Pancakes, and Paris was my first read of 2023, and it did not disappoint. It’s been a minute since I’ve read a good enemies to lovers RomCom, and this one has me wondering why I ever stopped!

First of all, I think I might actually be in love with Sawyer. He’s the perfect blend of snarky with hidden layers of sweet and kind. He complimented Georgia perfectly, who in and of her own right is a stellar character. As someone who’s taught high school myself, I deeply resonated with Georgia’s love and passion for her students. It’s a relationship that’s hard to describe, and Emmie did it perfectly!

If you’re in it for the slow burn tension that has your heart racing and your cheeks flushing, do yourself a favor and snag this book for your TBR!

I absolutely adored this book! Sawyer and Georgia will sit with me for a very long time. When he throws her up against the door. I was like… yes! Get it! That is what I need.

Sawyer and Georgia hate each other. Ever since they first met. Sawyer recently broke up with his girlfriend… but forgot to tell his best friend who’s getting married in Paris and the trip is paid for, for two people. Georgia’s best friend, Emerson (also Sawyer’s sister), suggests Sawyer take Georgia. Georgia has to pretend she’s Sawyer’s girlfriend, and she gets a free vacation to Paris. What could possibly go wrong!?? Or right 😏

Love it 😍

I love this story! I don't know why it took me so long to read it but I'm happy I finally did. This story is about enemies to lovers romance. Georgia is amazing. She is smart, pretty, sweet and down to earth. Georgia just have this aura about her that you can't help but to love her. She is studying to become a teacher which is in her wheel house. I love her! Sawyer is something else. He is handsome, smart, arrogant, and sweet. Sawyer is a chef and he loves it. He is a little mean to his sister bestfriend. He made me fell in love with him once you get to know and understand him. This is my first time reading from this author and I love the writing. It was easy to follow along and get right into the story. Amazing work Emma J. Holland!

This had me smiling all over and chuckling. Super feel good book and there was no third act breakup. Some minor miscommunication but figured out very quickly throughout the book.
I actually have a hard time starting a book with this kind of cartoon cover so it took me a bit but I read it in one sitting.
One of the things I did not like though, the amount of lightheartedness in the read, clashed with the drama at the end. I also had a bit of a hard time connecting with the results of the situation and the lack of writing before the epilogue. I'd have like to have known how it ended up with him knowing who the kid was and how the whole thing maybe affected Georgia afterwards. I was really missing those conversations.

Less than 24 hours and I’ve completed this Romcom.

I was given an ARC in exchange for my opinion.

Man oh man where do I even start with this book. First off it was my favorite. I wanted to be Georgia in this book. I mean a trip to Pairs, hell yes 👏🏻 but having to deal with someone you absolutely despise. Meh you gotta take your losses right.

Emmie really killed me with the slow burning tension set up through out. So if you like that stuff like I LOVE reading, then this is definitely for you.

Also be sure to have your tissues ready. I’m still currently overcoming that part of the book.

Read it now!

Thanks to Emma, I was able to read an ARC of this wonderful book before it is released!

This book is pure gold. I’m not much of a romance reader but Emma just hits it on the head with her romance books. I absolutely love Georgia and Sawyer. The way they’re relationship develops is so adorable and had me swinging my feet in the air and giggling the whole time I was reading this book. The little challenge they go through was a nice test of their relationship without the super sad bit like Olive Finch had. Honestly I was rooting for Georgia and Sawyer the entire time. 10/10 would recommend this book!

Emma has outdone herself. This book had me in a chokehold. Between the tension building between our main characters, the relatability of said characters, the side characters who added to the plot in a way that I loved, and the conflicts along the way that were just enough drama without ruining the fun, adorable story that she has created. I am in Love!! My new favorite of Emma’s books. I’m obsessed!! So grateful to have the opportunity to read this before the world realizes the masterpiece before them.

This book was such a delight! I’m not typically into romcoms but was told by a fellow arc reader that this book was incredible and immediately asked for an arc.

The tension between the characters is truly remarkable and the best part of the book. The author has amazing pacing throughout and the build up made it REALLY HARD to put the book down. The dialogue was amazing as well and I really enjoyed the banter between the two main characters.

Very happy with this read and can’t wait to read more by the author.

“If I were going to kill you, I wouldn’t use poison… Anything I’d do with you would be done with my hands.”

Sawyer and Georgia hate each other. They hate each other so much that they end up fake dating at a destination wedding in Paris.

I know what you’re thinking.. that doesn’t make any sense. Well you’re just going to have to read it yourself to understand the vengeful yet gloriously sweet relationship that transpires between these characters.

This book has enemies to lovers, best friends brother, fake dating AND one bed trope 😈

I could not put this book down 5/5 stars and 3/5 spice

This was cute! A typical enemies to lovers/slow burn. The main characters had really great chemistry, and I loved the writing style where the narrative changed between Georgia and Sawyer each chapter. I only gave 4 stars because some of the content felt a little repetitive, not like a callback but rather like a note or anecdotes that felt like the author forgot they’d already used that. There were also a few parts where the “….” to jump time mid chapter felt like cutting out what could have been a great part of the story. Either way, still a good read and enjoyed the book as a whole!

Okay, this was cute!!! Definitely one of the most realistic hate-to-love books i’ve ever read. The tension was tea, the banter was tea. SAWYER. Singlehandedly brought back ridiculously desperate men. I loved it. Although the last part was like meh and there weren’t even a lot of pancakes going on in this book (???) i love an unrealistically happy and rich (iykyk) romcom ending. If i wanted to, i could nitpick questionable points but like zzzzz it’s a romcom. It’s never that serious. This authors definitely needs to write more!!! 💖

Pride, Prejudice, and Pancakes is a delightful concoction of wit and romance. Emma spins a captivating tale where two childhood enemies are thrust into a fake-dating situation for a destination wedding in Paris. Despite their initial animosity, their journey unfolds with sizzling tension, humor, and unexpected twists. This is a must-read for fans of enemies-to-lovers, fake-dating romances, and best-friends-brother tropes!

3.5⭐ - This is a very cute book, I loved Sawyer (MMC) and Georgia and thought they worked brilliantly together. I personally didn't like having the 'twist' (car crash) so close to the end, and without much angst.
The 'enemies to lovers' should have been more fittingly named 'reluctant acquaintances to lovers'. Yes the characters couldn't stand each other (For 10 pages) but enemies?

All of those things aside, I devoured this book. Perfect for a light easy read :)
