Veteran crime writers Barb Pacholik & Jana G. Pruden are back with more true tales of tangled plots, foul deeds & conniving cons in the heart of the Canadian prairies.
In their second collection of Saskatchewan true crime stories, Pacholik & Pruden uncover a number of little-known or long-forgotten tales from Saskatchewan’s history, including chilling homicides, daring robberies, shocking frauds & even a suicide bombing & an airplane hijacking!
A good collection of crime stories. I felt like some of the stories were a little lacking, but I understand that in old cases it's hard to get more facts. Quick, fun read though.
I find the writing style challenging but I learned a couple interesting stories about my city I hadn’t heard. Great to have these compiled in this series.
Not surprisingly, the most interesting and some of the more violent cases happened before the 1950s. This is a good book but the authors and the publisher don't help future researchers by not putting in an index, not properly citing sources (e.g. saying they consulted National Archives file is like saying they read a book), and not being consistent with dates (e.g. half of the times, it's hard to figure out when the crime actually occurred). Still, a good start for those wanting an overview on a particular crime in Saskatchewan.
Although an interesting collection of cases, this book reads like a first draft - inconsistent tense, unnecessary information that muddles the story, and lame chapter titles. In a number of cases I wasn't sure what year the crimes were even taking place.
I find the authors GUILTY of putting together an under-edited and poorly written Saskatchewan crime collection!
