When murder meets Cuba’s first female Lieutenant Detective, Quiana ‘Qui’ Aguilera, she is faced with a triple homicide. Three dead medical personnel—two Americans and a Canadian female are fished from the Cuba Blue waters surrounding this tropical paradise. Who killed the visiting doctors and why is given to Qui to solve by a boss who wants her to fail.

When the bodies are stolen from under the nose of Cuba’s most famous medical examiner, Arturo Benilo—the only man she trusts—all instinct tells the tenacious Cuban detective that there are far more rats lurking in the deep shadows of Old Havana than she imagined.

While working the case with her hands tied at every turn under the regime rules, Qui learns that everyone in ‘Timewarp Town’—even those she loves—plead that she drop the case. Her stubborn nature only latches on harde. No matter where this twisting octopus of a case leads, no matter who it touches, nor who she loses in the devil’s bargain, Qui ‘Cuba Blue’ Aguilera will win or die trying.

Master of suspense and bone-chilling terror, Robert W. Walker, BS and MS in English Education, Northwestern University, has penned 44 novels and has taught language and writing for over 25 years. Showing no signs of slowing down, he is currently juggling not one but three new series ideas, and has completed a film script and a TV treatment. Having grown up in Chicago and having been born in the shadow of the Shiloh battlefield, near Corinth, Mississippi, Walker has two writing traditions to uphold--the Windy City one and the Southern one--all of which makes him uniquely suited to write City for Ransom and its sequels, Shadows in White City and City of the Absent. His Dead On will be published in July 2009. Walker is currently working on a new romantic-suspense-historical-mainstream novel, titled Children of Salem. In 2003 and 2004 Walker saw an unprecedented seven novels released on the "unsuspecting public," as he puts it. Final Edge, Grave Instinct, and Absolute Instinct were published in 2004. City of the Absent debuted in 2008 from Avon. Walker lives in Charleston, West Virginia.

Take three murdered doctors. Add Cuba’s first female police lieutenant and an American investigator. Frustrate them with bureaucratic cover ups, missing bodies, a good dose of distrust and conspiracy. Shake well. And what have you got?

A crackling good thriller in an uncommon setting with plenty of suspense, action and romance.

Walker has written and published more than 40 books in a variety of genre, so he naturally has learned something about getting a reader’s attention. I would suggest, though, the glitches in the transition to Kindle could stand some attention. The typos didn’t keep me from reading, but I’m sure they do distract some who might otherwise enjoy the story.
