Loved learning about Eritrea in the introduction. The recipes intrigue me and I will be trying some of them.

Every cookbook highlighting cuisine from one country would do well to give a social and political history of that country, and this cookbook does just that. This overview of Eritrea's colonization by the Turks, Italians and Ethiopians explains their cuisine. As a cookbook, this is a document of on Westerner's experience with the food of a faraway country, giving readers a whiff through a window and perhaps a desire for more.
