Napoleon In Exile: Or

Rate this book
Napoleon In Or, A Voice From St. Helena. The Opinions And Reflections Of Napoleon On The Most Important Events Of His Life And Government, In His Own Words by Barry Edward O'meara. This two-volume memoir compiles Napoléon's own reminiscences voiced to his Irish physician, Barry O'Meara, during his confinement at Saint Helena. The work presents Napoléon's candid accounts of his campaigns, political aims, and opinions on governments, ministers, and rivals, as well as personal reflections on his downfall and on the rulers who surrounded him. Edited by O'Meara from conversations conducted at Longwood and on shipboard, the narrative covers the period from Napoleon's arrival on Saint Helena through his later years, including interactions with Bertrand, Las Cases, Montholon, and Sir Hudson Lowe. The Preface explains the method and authenticity of the transcripts, and the volume includes Napoléon's observations on strategy, empire, religion, and memory. It remains a key primary source for understanding Napoléon from the perspective of a personal confidant and physician.
