Four years have come and gone. Jason Hunter has done a lot of growing up since coming to Summer Shandy. He's learned how to fight, he's grown his cookbook, and he's ended his farm. Friends have been made and ties have been strengthened. Jason is happy with the path his life has taken. Most of all, love has been found. But the hardest part of the journey is yet ahead.
noticed it has a Facebook group, which makes sense as it’s a dull Facebook ‘game’
I have read all ten of these casual farming: quiet living litrpg… so there is that. I wasn’t ejected from them. That said the flaws make so much of the whole I can’t remember the good. I read mostly on my kindle, which meant with each chapter starting with the date I could compare to the % left in the book and noticed that each season was exactly 25% of the book. To the point that some of the shorter chapters felt like they were just glued in to make the page count line up just so. It’s like listening to someone talk about their Facebook farming camp. There are no stakes, a reset to zero sucks but what can you do. I read a lot of fiction so I saw threads introduced that Never Pay Off but because they came up a couple of books earlier need to be brought up so that they can be left unresolved yet again. I don’t recommend, even for fans of gamelit, as the game is a Facebook click to farm X style game.
I've read all 5 of the Casual Farming novels that are currently out, though this is the first one I've actually written a review on. We've followed Jason from his arrival in Summer Shandy to his marriage and first child. Old friends have new roles, new faces have joined the town so he's not the newest guy, and he has thoroughly settled in. I really enjoyed this.
I am still, after 5 books, unsure of what to make of the time system in this universe. I'm happy we don't have Jason's wife puking all day every day for 7 months, but getting through the pregnancy in one season is a little strange. It works though, kind of like the seasons changing at midnight exactly on the last day of the season.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to book 6, whenever they get it published. :)
I can’t express how much I enjoy this series! The characters are vibrant and full of life the story progresses in a natural flow and still has surprises that you’re not expecting!! It isn’t a harem LITRPG it’s a wholesome story that I have come to love. There are many editorial mistakes however even with those mistakes I cannot recommend this series enough. The most wholesome story of this genre and a very unique system for a farming LITRPG. I’m waiting quite impatiently for the next book in the series so I can see what happens after this last spring festival surprises and Tess’s reaction to the surprise in the inventory.
A Litrpg about farming. It is a slice of life that almost makes you wish you were living in Summer Shandy. I fell in love with the series with the first book and every right I come to the end of the book I just about scream in frustration because it's over. This book is no different. With the addition of a new baby in the house Jason's and Tess's life is gonna get so much more complicated. And let's not forget about the dungeon on the far eighty. It's old, but is it really empty and dead?
I enjoyed this more than any of the prior books. It was funny, soothing, with plot surprises, strong character development, and truly captured initial parenting in an "otherworld" kind of way. These are a lovely change of pace from most LitRPGs as well as the stresses of our "real" world. I really enjoy the farming expansions/crop choices/greenhouse and cookbook, as silly as that may sound, and hope they are featured more in the next book.
When I need a reset or a change of pace, this series is perfect. There's no crazy plots or huge resets but I need that sometimes. Its what I like about it. I love Tess and Jason. I love the building of their farm and their life. After some of the books I've read, I needed something easy and relaxing. Casual Farming was exactly what I needed. This one was much slower than the others, but it tickled the right part of my brain.
I always enjoy a little romance in my reads along with some side stories and adventures. The author has done all of this and more. The psychological struggles were intense and let you inside their minds. I was really impressed and find the stories have enough twists to make the fun!
The kind of story line that could be suggested to a preteen but still be very entertaining for an adult. This series portrays life in the slow lane. Still, the story is quirkily engaging. A homey take on litrpg.
Slice of life. Easy going. Nothing to crazy. Still a great story that pulls you in wanting to read the next one. Definitely a must read. Can’t wait for the next one.
It's quiet slice of life farming. I wish there were more rpg elements, I wish there was more nitty gritty on the crops and harvests and what have you. All in all a pleasant read. I'm glad I made it through 5 books.
I'm so glad this keeps going and being happy. I keep getting worried something bad will happen, but this series continues to be my break from sad or not so happy litrpg. Please don't follow the all too familiar "kill off love interest" trope lol.
I have read the whole series to this point and am loving it. All the characters are memorable and enjoyable, and I can't wait to find out out what shenanigans they get up to next.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and entertaining. The story and characters continue to be interesting and engaging. This one might just be the best of the series. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what happens next. This is a must read.
A very relaxing and quiet departure from the pervious books, as Jason has almost fully settled into married life and has started dipping his toes into parenting. Very relaxing for people who read way too fast like me.
I recommend this for all litrpg fans. It's a lite system and a even lighter read. No world ending bbegs or op characters just a nice break from the typical litrpg
This book lost the focus on Farming Actions and focused instead on the child, an incapable mother, and a clueless father. I couldn't finish it, it was so boring.
So far this series has been great. Has enough to keep you reading and gives a relaxing read. Great change of pace from the normal save the world books.
Hopefully this is not the end. Great group of characters and a huge amount of stuff that can go right or wrong with how it's been left. Keep them coming.
