John Seger was hired as a mason in a fledgling community. The quakers were not well equipped to deal with the native American population. Seger stepped up to the challenge by learning about them and from them. In this way he earned their trust and respect. This is an amazing account of one upright and honest man and his relationship with the Cheyenne and Arapahoe Native Americans in the early days of America.

One of the rare looks at a first-hand account, in length. While filled with its own problems of either inaccuracies or too much self-congratulatory behavior, Segar's work is still interesting, and solid.
