This wasn’t exactly what I was expecting when I requested it. The first part was informational and I did learn a few things. The second part was more common sense, at least to me and was very surface level. It didn’t dive too deep and I didn’t learn anything I didn’t already know. The last part with the breathing exercises was very helpful, but I wish each one was gone through as a guided meditation of sorts, explained step by step and breath by breath. I didn’t feel like this was a great title, as there was nothing about healing your inner child. There was a small section about manipulation and freeing yourself from toxic relationships, but not really very helpful. Motivational, yes. I would say this is more so a very beginners guide to mediation and breathe work at the very most.

If you found this book, chances are that you know about the inner child, some breathing techniques, or that those help and heard quite some about meditation, so I can assume nothing in this book will be new to you.

The name of this book itself is very misleading. There truly is nothing about actual inner child healing. The author takes a look at breathing and its role in religions and Asian practices, like yoga, qigong, meditation, etc. Those were interesting parts, yet they consisted of a basic description of those, but nowhere related to the inner child and not even mentioning how it relates.

The book has 3 short chapters with some psychology basics on insecurities, relationships, and manipulation. Nothing grandiose, or something you haven't heard before, just quickly skimming across those topics. Should be somehow related to the name of the book, yet totally unrelated to the rest of the book. Author, I won't be doing your job connecting the dots to make the book fit its name when you are not willing to even draw the dots in the first place. I can't say that it's a poorly written book, but it looks more like notes to create a book, consisting of information extracts from the internet, and yet a lack of author contribution to the topic so far.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This title was extremely disappointing. The title has nothing to do with the contents of the book; it's more of a surface history of different religions and belief systems, surface touch on trauma--touching the barest of surfaces, really--and the shortest little blips at the very, very end on a few different types of breathing

Honestly, the majority of the book is presented as if the author wandered into a signs section in a cheesy home goods store, looked at all the platitudes, and assigned a shiny young 20-yo to write a brief paper on each one and then stretched it to fit a "chapter" ("choose happy" is actually "advice" covered in this book). Also irritating were the bell-chimes between chapters and the interjections from the author to "rate this book on audible!". The only positive was the narrator's voice.

If a reader is looking for true breath work to help vagus responses and learning to soothe the fight-or-flight type responses, studying family systems and impact, or any combination of these subjects, this book--despite the title--is not for them.

My thanks to BooksGoSocial Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview this title in exchange for my honest feedback.

The title of this book is extremely misleading and after reading I didn’t learn much that I already knew about mindfulness, meditation, and yoga. However, this would be a good introduction for such topics for a beginner but again I believe the title should be changed for that. I wish there was more inner child healing work within the book as that’s why I requested this book for review.

Inner Child Healing With Your Breath: escape from dark psychology manipulation
by Million Breath

I read a few books on the healing science of breathwork and I began practicing one of many techniques that are available. Its been six months and the practice has helped me physically and emotionally. I needed it for a stressful issue that I been dealing with for a lifetime, but incorporating Breath Practice with my meditation daily had given me great results. It really is amazing how our breath can really help with stress and other situations. I recommend this book and strongly encourage everyone to incorporate breathwork into their self-care routine. I hope folks are willing to invest in their well being with these holistic practices. #Netgallery

This was another tough one. The narration was decent. If this were any other book it probably would have been a little too slow. However, given the topic the slow soothing tone and cadence worked. I will say I listen a lot on my commute to work and I leave the house at 0445 there was a time or two I stopped listening because I was starting to get drowsy.

Otherwise, I was pretty underwhelmed. I'm not sure the author delivered on the descriptions promise. I am writing thins two days after finishing the book and I only remember one reference to the "Inner Child." Moreover, I feel this was more an overview of how cultures and religions have used and view breath. The description said I would learn how to us mantras; what I learned was the definition of a mantra and why they are seen as important. I don't recall one example of a mantra and despite being advised we should create our own, I really don't even have a clue how to do that. Well, it's supposed to be affirming and supportive healing sounds. The first part of the book was incredibly basic in describing breathing. In fairness, I have a degree in Biology so maybe that's why i felt like I was in 6th grade biology class. However, when the book moved on to breathing techniques and such it pulled way back and gave very little depth. I would have much rather that be the other way around. I have learned through other studies very specific breathing techniques, such as box breathing (4x4x4x4), slow relaxing (4x7x8), and rapid breathing 10 very quick breaths followed by a long exhale. Each of those are used to achieve different states. These was nothing in this book that was that specific. If this book was market as a "the history and beliefs if breathing," I'd be all in but as a how to and teaching me how to heal myself through breath work? Not so much.

I gave it a t3 starts because the historical information was good and enjoyable. The narration was good and there were some good nuggets of information sprinkled throughout. In my opinion this book has a good concept but needs to be fleshed out a little.

Note this was an advanced copy audio, as such this is my honest opinion.

A good overview of ways to get oneself regulated. As a heads-up for people with religious trauma in their backgrounds or who just do not find Christian references helpful to achieving a state of calm: you probably want to avoid the Religion & Breath chapter (the 2nd chapter) as it has some pretty significant Christian guidance. The rest of the book is secular and mostly an exploration of how East Asian cultures (particularly Japan) facilitate their calm using breathing techniques. I looked the author up to make sure this wasn't a white person exoticizing other cultures for profit; the author is Japanese and immigrated to the U.S. so this is an example of sharing cultural heritages in authentic ways as best as I can tell. I listened to the audiobook version and the narrator (to my English-only-fluent ears, though I live in a multilingual household where Cantonese and Mandarin are both heard constantly) did well with the pronunciations of the East Asian words (there were Chinese, Japanese, and a few from India as well as maybe a couple other languages mixed in that I'm forgetting). Audio production was very good and I'm hoping that the pronunciations were all accurate.

I thank the author and Netgalley for allowing me to review this book as an ARC copy.

Let's start by saying that I have always valued the importance of breathwork and am a fan of yoga. So getting into this book I really liked the way it started off by giving insights into the implications of breath, what it represents and how it connects with religion and our daily life.
Where it lost me was the second half, where the book sa=tarted giving unsolicited general advice for how to get out of tricky life situations, diverging from the main theme. I would have loved it if the book decided to dive deeper in the implication of breath, exploring in depth different breath practices, potentially using data from research showing the positive implications of correct breathing patterns. That was lacking for me, and this is why I can't leave a full mark, but would definitely recommend for someone looking to get more into the benefits of breathwork and mindfulness.

Thank you netgalley for an advanced ARC of this book

While listening to the audiobook I enjoyed listening to the information given about stuff, especially chapter 2 where you learn about religions and beliefs as well as how breathing is so important in all these different cultures. I think this book is good for people who want to learn about how important Breath is in healing and cultures/religions around the world, I am interested in starting mediation so this gave me more info to do that with + I am on a Inner healing journey but I didn't see much to do with child inner healing... but in chapter 3 the exercises there are good to do and I am going to make some of them apart of my daily habit.

For beginners of wanting to start mediation I do this this book would be good to read

"Inner Child Healing With Your Breath: Escape from Dark Psychology Manipulation" offers a unique perspective on inner child healing as a means of protection against manipulation. While it provides valuable insights and techniques, it may not fully meet the expectations of readers seeking a comprehensive exploration of dark psychology manipulation. The book serves as a useful introduction to the topic but may require readers to seek additional resources for a more in-depth understanding of the subject matter.

This was an interesting book when it came to a background of yoga practices, mindfulness and ways of dealing with potential trauma and self esteem. The breathing element of the book was less than half of it however, with a sentence about how powerful breath is every now and again. While it may be good with the parts it spoke about, I don't think it ever spoke about healing an inner child. The title is a tad misleading.
All in all though it is not bad for giving you a good background on certain topics.

This book was informative and really makes you think. Breathing is something we all do. All day every day. We overlook it and take advantage of its importance. As someone who has panic attacks you learn the importance of taking a nice slow deep breath as you try to focus on anything other then the panic attack. I love that this book goes threw different practice that focus on the importance of breath and how doing something so simple mindfully can change our lives. I enjoyed hearing how other practices use breath work. I will definitely be looking into some of these practices more.

I thought this was going to be a little different than it was but I had a lot of good takeaways from it. There were so many breathing techniques discussed and I can't wait to try all of the ones I haven't already tried. I thought it was well researched and very approachable even for beginners. The narrators voice was very soothing and perfect for this book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

different

OK, so I read a lot of books about this topic. And this one is definitely different from the rest. I can’t decide if I like it better necessarily, because there’s a lot of spiritual stuff, but it’s still really refreshing. Although a lot of it is very woo woo, I really appreciate the emphasis on deep breathing and especially.

so peaceful

I really enjoyed this book and am surprised by some of the reviews maybe they didn’t read the entire book. I though this book was great and had so much history and information from other cultures. One of my favorite chapters was the one in reiki and the 5 principles of reiki: Just for today, do not worry, just for today…

ARC NETGALLEY REVIEW

Absolutely a great read, so helpful for my classes yoga and meditation. It was also full of history knowledge about breathe work which sometimes is hard to find. I will definitely be using this for my teaching classes in yoga, meditation and breath work. Must have for anyone into learning about breath or more knowledge than they already have.

This was interesting but it doesn't seem to be what it was advertised. It sounded like it was going to be tips and exercises for healing, but it was mostly going back through different disciplines that use breathing as a technique. And the history and descriptions were interesting but not as helpful as I'd hoped. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me listen to this

I didn’t learn a lot from this book that I didn’t already know but it could serve as a good introduction to concepts like meditation, yoga, mindfulness; etc. I didn’t know the origins of the idea behind the power of words, kototama, and I liked reading more about it as I think it’s essential for understanding why affirmations and mantras are effective. I didn’t like the encouragement to “leave a review on Amazon” in the middle of the book, which tried to tie that promotion request to breathwork. I feel like the book’s title was misleading as there was a lot of focus on basic information and facts, while there could have been more on breath work and inner child healing. My ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

A breath of fresh air! This was a pleasant audiobook based on breath and breathing works. Discussing religions, the history of, mantras, Qigong and Reiki (my passion). I'm a Reiki Practitioner and not enough people understand what Reiki is and what we do, in particular the five precepts we follow, For today: I will not worry, I will not be angry, I will be honest, I will be compassionate and I will be humble. Ofcourse its easier said than done to not worry, we are hunan after all but where do we get ourselves by worrying? Using the breath work, we can reduce anxiety thus preventing stress and anger.
The audio looks at insecurities in relationships, manipulative relationships etc and I think what they are trying to point out is that breath work can control stresses and strains and help you to see clearly, possibly using meditation which is quite right.
Don't knock it before you try it!
If you are into this type of thing you will love it!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced Audiobook in return for an honest review.
