I love DK books and the format, but I was a little dissappointed in this book. The layout is fantastic, clear and easy to read. However this really is just a basic introduction or browser encyclopedia of homeopathy. Remedies are in order by type (plant, mineral, etc) and each item gets a full page layout (color photos, clear layout). This is great to know more about how things are used in homeopathy. Later in the book there is a "self-help" section that covers basic ailments. This is more what I was looking for and what I found is that you can stock your medicine cabinet full of a few basic elements that are introduced here and then use this as a self-help for minor aches and pains. Really understanding more about ailments would either mean using a different resource or contacting a doctor (MD, ND, whatever) for more individualized evaluation. I will continue my search, sigh...
This is an excellent reference book for beginners to homeopathy. The pages are laid out beautifully and tempt the reader to begin leafing through the pages right away. Most common ailments are covered in great detail, there's a largish materia medica and the repertory is extensive and written very clearly. The only thing that would have made it better is a section on homeopathy for common ailments for house pets, including dosages.
