Worthy of Their Esteem: The Timeless Words and Sage Advice of Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln is one of the most revered Presidents in the history of the United States. His persistence saved the Union, and preserved our Constitution. But his wisdom, with its homespun feel, and far deeper meanings, was the backbone of his enduring popularity. The combination of his sense of self -effacing humor and stories of backwoods life helped Lincoln make his points with the masses, and helped him communicate with a country at its lowest point, and in the middle of a terrific struggle.
Author Iain C. Martin assembles Lincoln's most popular and best quotations and bits of wisdom which helped Lincoln to endure through the ages. Funny, poignant, and inspiring, the greatness of the man shines through as never before.
"Abraham Lincoln's life helped define the essence of being an American and the ideals of freedom, and Worthy of Their Esteem offers a rich collection of the best of his sayings, grouped according to what major themes they address. Added historical and biographical background plus vintage illustrations make this a top pick for a wide range of collections..." -- The Midwest Book Review

Great book, fast read. I found out several things about Pres. Lincoln that I did not know. It is mostly comprised of quotes and short descriptions of the events of the day.

Great addition to the research base for the book I'm writing. I'm excited to dig into the revisions again after reading this one.

Initially, and PRIOR to reading I did not think "Worthy of Their Esteem" would warrant a 5 star rating.
This was not the first book I read about Abraham Lincoln. Quite frankly I was impressed beyond a 3-4 star reading at the conclusion of one of-if not the greatest President in the history of the US.
Lincoln taught himself the read, in his early years and excelled in his vocabulary and substance of his speeches as if being heavenly sent. I have never seen a picture of "Abe" smiling. He had a hard life dealing with the deaths of 2 or 3 wives, as well as sons.
Needless the say, the short book was full of substance (almost divine or otherwise) and was very informative of the life, trials, and tribulations of Abraham Lincoln. Needless to say I was very impressed in this short book and highly recommend reading.

A little book of quotes from Abraham Lincoln, organized into chapters by topic introduced with a short blurb.
I started reading this alone, but ended up reading the second half aloud with my kids sometimes during our devotional.

I love the history of his platform and beliefs and then reading his words. Such a powerful speaker. I wish men still spoke this way. His wisdom and words resonate with the current political climate even now.
