I really wanted to love this book (as I did with Lobel's A House Is a House for Me) but I'm afraid I really did not like this one. I don't have the heart to mark it two stars because I think it's really just personal preference and there is nothing objectionable in the book. It's actually a very sweet idea as little children decide to make a garden inside their house on a rainy day and they play dress-up to make it come to life. However, the illustrations kind of creeped me out (especially the ones with the kids dressed as birds and bugs--it was just too realistic looking and icky for me seeing basically a bird or a worm but with a kid's face!) However, as I suspected, other reviewers feel very differently so don't write it off altogether!

I turned to some children's books, because I was reading some books I'm having trouble getting through.
This is a lovely children's book, where the children come inside when it rains, and they bring the garden ideas inside with them. The illustrator for this book, has experience as a costume designer, and she has drawn beautiful costumes and backgrounds for the children's play.
This book gave me back some joy in my life, after reading a very dark book, which I wish I hadn't read.

Cute little story about what happens when it's a rainy day and the children want to play in the garden. The children bring the garden inside with dress up like the plants and animals outside. Simple text and sweet story.

What a pretty, imagination-fostering book! My favorite pages were the ones with the dragonflies and the fireflies.

Mostly a picture book with scant text. On a rainy day, a group of friends dress up as various bugs and animals that inhabit a garden.
