This is fun book. Lot of pictures are included so it is a very quick read. The chapters are like essays written by authors from that area so that adds another dimension to their essay. The most interesting chapters to me were about San Francisco, Manhattan, the South, and Canada. I have seen many of the movies talked about. It is interesting that multiple movies have been filmed in the same locations. It would be fun to actually visit these locales with the book in hand for a tour!

Key faults:

1. No maps in the book. I want maps with at least key locations marked.

2. Names of locations are in bold, but not the films. I’m not reading this book to see if a certain hospital or restaurant is included mentioned. What’s important to me is the name of the film and the address of the location. Places close, so including the name of an establishment can be helpful, but it’s ephemeral.

3. The topic of the book is too broad. It tries to cover North America and South America, but it’s exceedingly limited. San Francisco gets one chapter. All of Canada get one chapter. I have a whole book that is dedicated just to film and TV locations in the UK.

Upside: I feel inspired. Maybe I should write a book about film/TV locations! Or maybe a blog?

This is unique travel book because this covers North and South America by movies that were filmed on both continents. You will learn where some of your favourite movies were filmed and where you can see some of these locations yourself.

A travel book that can take you places you've never been with glimpses of films that have been shot there along the way. Each section is written by someone who knows the area and the movies that were made there, telling you what to look for. For those of us who will never see these places, it's a nice little behind the scenes glimpse into the history of film.
