This book was really written for teachers and use in school rather than just another Robinson Crusoe book. Its purpose was to help children understand come articles we take for granted. So it explains how the shoe was made and clothing etc. It still has a story and I enjoyed it but it lacked the thrill of the original Robinson Crusoe.

This is an adaptation of Robinson Crusoe written by a Chicago school superintendent to teach children about the consequences of idleness and disobedience. It's actually quite cute. But this, though:
He soon had a home of his own with a happy family. Friday, the dog, and the parrot lived in it, dearly beloved and cared for by their master the rest of their days.

Pleasant reading. Not nearly as exciting as the original, but it held my interest. I listened to this as a free download from Librivox.org. The reader was very clear and expressive, but it puzzled me that she read all of Robinson's quotes, even far into his manhood, as if he were a little child.

Enjoyable retelling of Robinson Crusoe as if a boy shipwrecked on an Island off of Central America. A simple and enjoyable read. Just as exciting as the original.
