Text and photographs introduce sharks and their physical characteristics including their size, teeth, and fins, and their behavioral traits such as swimming in groups. Written in English and Spanish.
Julia saw this at the library and just had to get it. Glancing through I quickly saw that it's for younger kids and not the average five year old but she wasn't trying to hear it so home it went with us. We read it today, in about 20 second because each double page spread has about an average of 6 words. Perfect for a real one young, not so perfect for Julia. The authors would have done well to include the name of the shark with the pictures. Julia knew certains ones, others we had no idea and there was no way to find out (outside of the book of course). It's very, very basic, definitely not for any child with any sort of knowledge about the shark. It's not scary other than the fear a child may feel just looking at one of the "scary" creatures. I'd read it to a real young child if they showed interest.
