Evelyn Sanders' Bitte Einzelzimmer Mit Bad (a single room with a bathroom, please is the general English translation of the title) is the first of the author's Tinchen und Florian series, and is unfortunately also the one novel of said series which I have most definitely always enjoyed the absolute least (so much so that I do not even remember all that many of the specific plot and storylines in much detail, except to be able to claim and rather categorically so that Bitte Einzelzimmer mit Bad is a bit too unbelievable and artificial in set-up and much too annoyingly stereotyping in a rather tedious, and quite majorly yawn-inducing manner).
Sure, some of the little scenarios and escapades main protagonist Tinchen experiences as a tour guide for a German travel company in Italy are rather hilarious. But for one, the humour presented in Bitte Einzelzimmer mit Bad is more often than not quite forced and therefore also entirely on the surface, and for two, the fact that so much of said humour is also and equally rather too heavily in my opinion based on cultural and ethnic stereotyping (of both Italians and Germans and both women and men being seen and depicted by Evelyn Sanders not so much as nuanced characters with diverse personalities but more as flat paper-doll like entities who always seem to act and react in very predicable and similar manners) and that even many of the featured episodes and anecdotes themselves often do not really make all that much common sense either or at least seem to generally feel like rather artificial plot devices to help move along the narrative, have made me not really consider Bitte Einzelzimmer mit Bad as but an at best low two star read.
Of course Bitte Einzelimmer mit Bad is also not a terrible novel by any stretch of the imagination, is thus also not cringeworthyly vile so to speak, but is also really not in any fashion a story that I would ever strongly recommend except for those readers who might have already read some of the following (and yes, considerably superior) Tinchen und Florian novels and want to read (to complete) the series, as the entire concept of Bitte Einzelzimmer mit Bad (the entire movement towards the ending of the novel, which is the engagement and then marriage of Tinchen and Florian), with Florian, Tinchen's former work colleague from her previous job in Germany, basically stalking her a bit and actually following her to Italy to court her (and then her wayward teenaged brother Karsten showing up unannounced in Italy, rooming with Florian and acting as a bit as a cupid figure between the two, pretty much an almost forced fairy tale like occurrence, a deus ex machina)l yes this has always left me pretty much coldly disappointed and even somewhat frustrated and annoyed at author Evelyn Sanders (especially since so many of her other novels, both fiction and biographic, are oh so much better and readable and not such a dragging and groan-worthy slog). And indeed, I actually only reread Bitte Einzelzimmer mit Bad in the first place because I am attempting to post reviews for my collection of read but at present just star rated Evelyn Sanders novels. However, while with many and perhaps even most of them, rereading has been both joyful and a fun, diverting sojourn into what in German is fondly called Trivialliteratur (trivial, humouristic literature, books to simply read for pleasure and not at all for academic purposes and in-depth analysis), Bitte Einzelzimmer mit Bad has not really been at all funny and entertaining, has actually been so tedious and monotonous at times, that I have ended up being forced to skim over much of the story and then feeling a huge sense of relief to finally be finished (which is not really what I want and expect from reading for pleasure and relaxation).

Als Teenager im Bücherregal meiner Eltern entdeckt, begeistert gelesen und geplant, Reiseleiterin in Italien zu werden, wenn ich groß bin. Jetzt - groß geworden - wieder entdeckt und hauptsächlich geschockt davon, dass in diesem Buch wirklich an einer Tour gesoffen wird. Die Siebziger müssen eine sehr feucht-fröhliche Zeit gewesen sein 😂 Dazu noch dreimal das N-Wort in einem Buch über weiße Deutsche in Italien. Definitiv ein Buch aus einer anderen Zeit.
That said - nette seichte Sommerlektüre spielend in Italien mit einer etwas vorhersehbaren Liebesgeschichte, platten Witzen und inzwischen einer guten Prise Nostalgie. Gut für den Urlaub oder zum Stillen der Urlaubslust 😊
