Daisy the baby will not say a word. The family try everything to coax her into talking but she won't. One day, Daisy opens her mouth ...and out comes a stream of sentences and questions about the world and everything in it, much to her family's complete surprise!
Margaret Wild is one of Australia's most highly respected picture-book creators whose award-winning children's books are loved by children all over the world. Margaret has published over seventy picture books for young children and she has been the recipient of the Nan Chauncy Award and the Lady Cutler Award for her contributions to Australian children's literature.
Margaret Wild has done a fantastic job at capturing what every parent and older sibling discovers. You desperately want your baby to reach the next milestone (currently our's is walking), but as soon as they reach this milestone you long for the "good old days" when life was so much simpler. The milestone this book focusses on is talking - the family spends ages wishing young Daisy would speak, and then when she does they wonder when she will stop!
Plenty of animal sounds to play around with!
Deborah Niland does a great job, as usual, on the illustrations. One niggle is that I kept thinking that Dad's eyebrows were actually poorly healed stiches, ala Frankenstein.
A cute little book for toddlers. Everyone is waiting for the baby to speak, waiting, waiting. Of course once she does speak, it's incessant. Rather true to life.
A model for a successful picture book, with bright illustrations, plenty of repetition and an obvious but pleasing outcome: be careful what you say to baby!
This one is popular with my boy. He likes the various things Daisy can do and happily reads them out. He is not aware of the other kid's jokes in the books.
