A Stroke of Genius

He wasn't in her job description

Mallory Littlefield's gorgeous new boss, Elliott Fraser, was a certified genius - a member of an elite group of "brains" who were paid top dollar just to think. But the poor man was a complete incompetent when it came to day-to-day life. Mallory quickly realized Elliott needed more than her secretarial skills.

Free-spirited Mallory was soon teaching him everything she knew - from driving a car to dancing cheek to cheek. And when Elliott developed an insatiable desire to learn about love, it didn't take a high IQ to guess where the lessons were leading!

This book was a really nice read. I am really enjoying the old Temptation titles I have read in the past week by this author. The hero/heroine meet when the heroine is filling up a form in a employment agency and in walks the hero, who fires some questions at her, can she type, take notes and hires her and for some reason the heroine follows. The hero is a genius who works out home and has trouble keeping secretaries. The heroine quickly realises that his whole life the hero has been cosseted and told to just be a genius and to learn basic human interaction. When she gets fed up with him and threatens to quit, he takes her to dinner, apologises and tells her that he needs her at work so that his sister can finally stop taking care of him and marry the man she loves. They make a bargain she will teach him to drive, interact with people, dance etc and they will pretend to date so that his sister isn’t worried about him anymore. Of course pretence is hard to do when you have so much chemistry as these two do. There are barriers of course - they are two different people and the heroine is scared to get involved with an employer again (last one went horribly) and doesn’t think she can measure up to his genius. The hero is afraid he is too boring and passionless for her and won’t fit into her life. I felt they worked through their fears and issues wonderfully! A nice oldie.

I love this author, and this book was no exception. The H, Elliot, is an absent minded genius who is often immersed in his various projects to the detriment of everything else around him. He is abrupt, scattered at times, and although a certified genius, he is quite naive and uncertain about every day life.

The h, Mallory, is quirky, impulsive, fun loving, and quick to get herself into oddball situations. She's a great balance to Elliot's staid and serious lifestyle. It was fun and sometimes funny to watch the two interacting and trying to find ways to understand each other. Their attraction was almost immediate, but this was not an insta-love story. Their feelings and the romance built over time and each of their concerns over getting involved felt true to the characters.

This was pretty good. I loved the characters and the plot. It was fun, steamy, sweet, somber, and a little aggravating. Had me smiling and wanting to knock a few characters upside the head. I definitely wouldn't mind reading this again. I liked all the characters and can't really think of anything I would seriously like to change. This would be a good cuddle-up or relaxing read. Enjoy

The H wasn’t quirky and the h wasn’t quirky either. The H wasn’t arrogant either or absent minded and he wasn’t even a jerk. There wasn’t any major character growth for them or any obstacle or self doubt for them to overcome and bond together. It was just too bland all the way through with no conflicts of any kind.

This book was simply fantastic. I can't believe I avoided this book for so long just because of the old cover (which they have replaced with a more modern looking cover). The story is sweet and it pulls at my heart strings. Never before have I read a book where the love scenes make me melt into a puddle (And I don't mean just sex). This is definitely a book I will want to re-read in the future. I think I have suddenly become a fan of Gina Wilkins and I can't wait to check out her other works.

On a side note, I'm shocked that this book has so little reviews, especially given for how long it has been around.
