I didn't like this one as much. D.W. manipulates her way into Arthur's Bionic Bunny Fan Club just because she wants to hang with Arthur's friends. If she were an actual FAN of Bionic Bunny, she would have been watching the television show, which she WASN'T. Come on, Arthur. Grow some balls, man. Stand up for yourself. However, it's still an Arthur book so it's not that bad.
These books are fine. They're nothing special, but for fans of the Arthur TV show they're entertaining enough. And, actually, as far as TV tie-in books go, the Arthur ones are some of the better ones.
Summary: One day Arthur was super excited to come home and watch the new episode of Bionic Bunny, but his sister, D.W., was watching something on the TV. So, Arthur made a promise that if he got to watch the TV, then D.W. could come to the next Bionic Bunny Fan Club Meeting. On the day of the meeting, Arthur tried asking many other people to watch D.W. so she didn’t have to go to the meeting. But she ended up going to the meeting anyway. At first, everyone was upset she was there, but then she brought a lot of treats, like brownies, cookies, and punch, so everyone was really happy she was there!
Possible Topics: 1. Everyone must keep all their promises. 2. Be nice to your siblings, even a sassy little sister! 3. Everyone likes treats (brownies, cookies, etc.)!
I quite liked this book it was an Original plot and not a retelling of an episode of the show. The art in this one seems up to date enough to be on par with the artwork in the tv show mid seasons, and well the plot was short it worked and I appreciated they gave us more text and writing then some other Arthur books. My only gripe with this is Arthur fans will know D.W hates bionic bunny as it scares her and so I don’t see why she wanted to be in the fan club that to me felt out of character especially with jo motivation behind it.
In my younger days I used to think the world of this dude Arthur. Now, in my experienced life I've come to realize how much of a jerk this dude is. I would love to see what an adult Arthur ending up doing in life. That said I enjoyed this read very much.
Summary: This book tells the story of Arthur, who makes a promise to his younger sister, D.W., that he has a hard time keeping. When D.W. prevents Arthur from watching his favorite T.V. show, he promises her that he will allow her to attend his next "Bionic Bunny Meeting" if she allows him to watch his favorite show. She agrees, but Arthur hoped that she would forget about the promise and not actually attend his next meeting. Arthur makes an effort to try to keep D.W. from attending his meeting. However, in the end D.W. does attend the meeting, and Arthur and his friends end up enjoying having D.W. there!
Teaching Ideas: As a teacher, I would implement this book in my classroom to promote positive character traits. I would use this book to teach the importance of honesty, trust, and following through on commitments, even when they are things we may not particularly enjoy.
Evaluation: I personally love all Arthur books, but especially this one. The story line is interesting to readers. This book also contains great illustrations. I would recommend this book to anyone!
My son has picked this one a few times already since bringing it home from the library. I love this Family Values Series because the stories have all been pretty fun with familiar characters and realistic situations.
Arthur really wants to watch a tv show and when he promises his sister that she can come to the club meeting, he thinks that he'll be able to get out of it. He learns that having his sister involved isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world.
Arthur promised to let D.W. come to his Bionic Bunny meeting if she let Arthur watch his favorite show. D.W. made cookies and brownies so he let her go. J.R.
