An exceptional first-hand account of aviation in the mid to late 1930s. Written in a way that takes you into the barely adequate cockpits and introduces us to the bat open tracts of land and sea that were being crossed for the first time. Nothing short of miraculous.
I have to admit, it was slow going, as the writing style is quite dry. But, wow! The contrast between the quaint meet-and-greets of the 1930s and the epic ordeal of Jean Batten's flights is mind-boggling. What a hero.
