* Meine Meinung *

3 1/2 Stars ~ After a year of turmoil, Audrey is finally finding the peace she craves in the small community of Willow Glen. She's purchased the old grist mill and begins to convert it into a cafe. In the local grocery store, she meets Nelson, an older gentleman whose wife has recently died; and they form an instant friendship. Nelson's a carpenter and looks forward to the days he spends helping Audrey at the mill. Worried about how his father is adapting, Brady is persuaded by his partner to take a break from their construction company. When he arrives in Willow Glen, he's surprised to see some sparkle back in his father's eyes, and then he meets Audrey, the woman responsible. Brady had been disillusioned when his fiancee proved to be out only for what she could get from him, and so he views Audrey with suspicion. When Nelson insists that the father-son time Brady had in mind be spent working on Audrey's renovations, Brady slowly comes to see the warm, generous and hard working person she really is. That is until a reporter shows up and Audrey confesses to him exactly what she's been running from.
Trish Milburn had a lovely writing voice and I enjoy her characters very much. Audrey is a strong young woman who has to face public accusation for crimes her mother committed. Brady is one of those hunky heroes that has an epiphany moment when he realizes how silly he is to measure Audrey by his ex's deeds. Once he does, he's right there for her, willing to risk his own reputation by association. Ms. Milburn covers some very emotional territory from grief, fear, anger, and a fierce desire to protect. I loved the fairytale ending.

I've read a few of Trish Milburns novels and each time I do I'm delightfully surprise. I don't know how the author does it but she has this unique talent that just drags me right in within the first few paragraphs. This novel was no exception to that. The hero and heroine were beautiful together, I felt their emotions like they were my own. It was a totally worthy read.

Interesting story with interesting characters. However, the trust issues felt a little awkward and even though they were explained, I wish there was more to it. I didn't feel like their issues were enough for them to be constantly pushing each other away. But all in all a pleasant read.

I liked the aspect of starting over, building something new from something old.
