Saki, an outgoing girl from Yamato's hometown, visits the bathhouse/apartment complex that Yamato currently lives at. She is thrilled to have met him again, especially considering that they knew each other in the past. Will Yamato be able to deal with her while he tries to focus on his goal of winning Suzuka's affections?
Volume 15 of "Suzuka" introduces yet another new character who does not add much value to the story so far. At first, Saki provides some very funny moments and it looked like her presence would play a prominent role in the plot, however she ends up being simply another character added for filler moments.
This is not to say that she is completely pointless; her introduction actually shifted the story in a very interesting direction and we get to see a more mature side of Yamato this time around. Yamato even willingly tries to solve the relationship problems of the college girl Yuuka in the best way he can. He is also finally more firm with the things he has to say to Suzuka, and vows to keep his promises to her. That being said, this volume has filler chapters but also contains some of the most memorable moments in "Suzuka" thus far.
The artwork is done fairly well, especially the backgrounds. Places such as the city skyscrapers and streets are realistically detailed, and objects such as trees, signboards, and vehicles are clearly illustrated. Character art is decent, however the character close-ups are of less quality than in the previous volume. Otherwise, the characters look all right when seen from conventional angles.
Two bonus manga stories are featured after the end chapter of the book: The first is a funny parody of Doraemon, and the second is a short but clever side story featuring Yamato's younger cousin Miho. Both are good additions to the volume and serve as effective little stories to lighten the mood after reading the emotional ending chapter.
"Suzuka" Volume 15 is perhaps the best of the volumes that feature filler content, since even during those filler chapters Yamato shows significant improvement in his personality and trail of thought. Let's hope this version of Yamato will be consistent in the next volume!
