Everything is going wrong for Caitlin Saylor. Her boyfriend has left her. Her musical trio is disbanding. And for their trio's swan song? They'll be playing another wedding: a chance to watch someone else's happy ending. And then, unexpectedly, Chase Hollister enters the scene. The candle factory owner is handsome, charming and very interested in Caitlin. His gift of a special candle proves it. But there's something more to the candle than Caitlin or Chase suspect. Something that puts Caitlin at risk. To keep Caitlin safe, Chase must face a haunting crime from his past—and a deadly killer in the present.

Well, duh. I wrote the book, so of course I'm going to give it five stars! But here's the review from ROMANTIC TIMES, who gave it FOUR AND A HALF stars!:
"SCENT OF MURDER by Virginia Smith: While visiting Nashville, Ind., to play with her trio at a wedding, Caitlin Saylor takes a mini-vacation and meets Chase Hollister at his family's candle-making business. Earlier, Chase came across a murder victim apparently involved with drugs and killed in the same way as his friend was a year ago. Chase unwittingly puts Caitlin in danger when he gives her a candle meant for someone else, and soon they're embroiled in a murder and kidnapping. Plenty of action and suspense, a fine mystery and the knowledge that the love of God is for everyone, no matter what they've done, make this a entertaining and thought-provoking story."
I will never look at scented candles the same way again!
A fun finale to Smith's trilogy about a musical trio who just can't seem to stay away from murders! Caitlin heads up to "Little" Nashville, Indiana, to do some shopping and meditating before the trio's finale wedding gig. She stops off at the local candle factory to get a free tour, and winds up with much more!
A Scent of Murder is a believable story with mystery, danger and romance. Apparently, it is the 3rd book in a series but can stand alone. I haven’t read either of the other books and still enjoyed this one.
This line of books always has a mystery, a simple romance and a gentle Christian message. Not a lot of depth but an easy read. This particular storyline was ok but the characters were a little flat.
Wow! This book kept me on the edge the entire time! All three books have been packed full of suspense and fun romance! In this book, Catlin travels alone to Indiana. A simple tour in a candle shop and a cute guy gets her involved in a huge murder mystery! This one is probably the most intense of all three books, and they guy is pure evil!
One thing I really liked about this book is the fact that the author kept sending us on twists and turns in this story - we never knew what was going to happen next! One thing I didn't like was putting a limit on when one can fall in love. Catlin made a vow that she would not be romantically involved for 365 days - it was sort of silly since she was, but they said she wasn't!
This is my second book by Virginia Smith. I just looked back on my review of the first of her books I read, and I must have been very grumpy at that time. I still resent the pounding of religion in her books, but this was a fascinating mystery and it kept me up very late. I read the book cover to cover in one reading. However, when a character's life is literally falling apart before his eyes and his almost girlfriend touches his arm and says "I'll pray for you." It just doesn't fit.
I think this was the best one of the three. The abductions were a little redundant, but still worked. They were probably a requirement of the publisher anyway. I thought the use of the candles was really creative and worked really well.
