The Criminalization of Christianity

Rate this book
There is a war going on for the future of our country. Most people know that. What they may not know is that if Christians lose, the result won’t merely be enduring public policy we disagree with—it will be a prison sentence for those who oppose it. We’ve all seen the attack coming. First the Supreme Court said kids can’t pray in school. Then the Ten Commandments were ripped from the classrooms. Now pastors are being removed from their pulpits and put in jail for speaking out against homosexuality (Sweden). And things are only getting worse. How in the world did we get to this place? And why is it that Christians are singled out in this assault on morality? Serving as a wake-up call for America, this book will expose the truth that Christianity is being criminalized—and that we must stand up against it now .

As a Christian in this country, you may be understandably reluctant to speak out on moral issues like abortion, homosexuality, or pornography. But while we have the right to remain silent, that’s not what God calls us to do.

Because if the world can silence the truth, it will silence the gospel.

Story Behind the Book

In 1997, Janet Folger heard a speech by Bob Knight of the Family Research Council in which Knight said that the ultimate goal of the homosexual movement was the criminalization of Christianity. At the time, Janet considered his comment to be an overstatement. But then she watched, listened, and learned. Now pastors in Sweden are being thrown into prison for speaking against homosexuality from their own pulpits. Canadians are being fined tens of thousands of dollars for refusing to print materials they are morally opposed to. Can an intensified assault in the U.S. be far behind?

In some ways this book is a little hard to classify. I put it on my "Read" shelf. It isn't really a totally political book nor is it a theological book. I suppose it could be called a current events book...I may have to start another shelf.

I'm recommending this one as I see many others have. Let me say up front that this either deals with or at least touches on some controversial subjects. While I do not agree for example with some of the Christian Theology the the author holds to, I do agree with the stand taken and the view of the situation around Christianity. The very fact of the way I have to carefully approach certain subjects even here speaks to what Christians have to deal with. In America today a minister can face legal sanctions for things said inside a church building during a church service yet Nazis can get a permit and go to a Jewish neighborhood and spew hate...legally. The KKK can march through an African American neighborhood yet the Bible can legally be labeled "hate speech". When one crackpot claims the title Christian and then commits some atrocity all Christians can then be smeared as "haters".

Just a side note...disagreement does not equal hate.

An example given. A person goes to a privately owned print shop to have some flyers printed up for an event. The printer explains he disagrees with the cause and would rather not do the job. Most of us would simply go down the street to another printer...not here though, not now. The printer is taken to court and in the end driven out of business. This went on with the "so called" abortion pill. Some pharmacists didn't want to carry it...they to were told they sell the so called "morning after pill" or face legal sanctions and civil action...read be closed down.

We all tend to read books that reflect our own thoughts and ideas on things our own beliefs. Some of you will probably hate this book. Some will immediately have a negative emotional reaction. Others will agree with some, most, or all of things said here. I simply suggest that you try to look at the overall point of the book. Christians are being criminalized today. It's going forward slowly and many of us are still probably thinking, "that could never happen here."

Time to stop and consider that. Everywhere "it" did happen was populated by people who thought it could never happen "there", that is wherever they lived.

Well, whatever you end thinking of the book and of it's subject it's at least supported with facts and examples. The author is very close to a couple of causes (she actually had her car fire bombed by one of her loving, accepting, open minded opponents) and you'll have to understand that and get past it. This is an across the board problem. Things are happening here that most of us would have already said, "couldn't happen here".

An example? Two girls took their Bibles to school and were reading them in free study time (no, not out loud, just at their desks). They were sent to the office where the principal took...that is took away their Bibles, tossed them in the waste can and, "this is trash". Wonder if he'd do that with any other religious text?

"That" could never happen here...right?

An excellent book, depicting the way western society, and America in particular, has fallen for all the different lies and agendas that the communists, liberals, and other anti-Christian organizations have been forcing on western nations little by little, without most people even realizing that they are doing it. Unfortunately Janet Folger's theology is quite mixed up, but for the plain facts that this book presents it is extremely useful and sobering. It's frightening to see how all these agendas have succeeded in their ultimate goal--the criminalization of Christianity.

This is one of the worst pieces of writing I have ever encountered in print. It is so poorly written it's positively juvenile. This person has such a narrow collection of information, that anything discussed outside of evangelical christian practice is completely stupid and false. An absolute disgrace of a book, it is a shame to even call it that. Succeeds only in proving the author's astonishing ignorance.

You can now get it at the AF public library. A favorite quote:

"At only one other time in history were men given to men in marriage and women given to women. Want to venture a guess as to when? No, it wasn't at the time of Sodom and Gomorrah, although that was my guess. Homosexuality was rampant there, but according to the Talmud not homosexual "marriage." What about ancient Greece? No. Rome? No. Babylon? No again. The one time in history when homosexual "marriage" was practiced, Satinover reports, was...during the days of Noah. And according to Satinover, that's what the Babylonian Talmud says was the final straw that led to the flood.

"When I heard Satinover say that, my mind immediately went to a verse, one I've heard many times but never with much relevance. It's found in Matthew:

"As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man." (24:37)"

Great cause. Great book.

Read up folks.

Our Christian liberty is under attack and if the church continues to be asleep at the wheel we will lose.

Hate speech laws have already been used in Canada to label parts of the bible hate speech and to make them illegal to preach. Coming soon to a town near you!

Evil will be called good, and good will be called evil.

Although this was written in 2004, but This is indeed an interesting read. It provide greater details on what is coming in the American policy and political environment. The author is actively promoting Prolife and anti abortion, LGBT and many other antiChristianity movements- removal of Bible, prayers in schools, politics..
The key important note the author is impressing upon the readers is, it’s critical to speaking out the truths of God’s Word in public, not just for the nation but for the future of our freedom. Because if the opposition can silence the truth, they will silence the gospel. As the author mentioned, read it, before it becomes illegal!!!

This is hate speech.

This book is hate speech full stop. The author published hate speech. Not only is this hate speech but it's 200 pages of hate speech in which the author whines about how hate speech has consequences. This book is not illegal in any of the places the author claims it is (you can buy it direct from Amazon in both Canada and Europe).

The claims in the book are either wholly unsourced, from wildly biased sources, or malicious misrepresentations of what was actually said.

White western christians are not oppressed (they are currently actively in power in the government) and any book arguing that they are is completely detached from reality.

Even though this book is already eight years old (2005), Janet L. Folger, the author has written an insightful and revealing book. She lays out facts that show that certain extreme Leftist organizations have targeted the Christian and Catholic churches in an attempt to solidify their socio-political strength. The facts are there and there is a warning of what will happen if the Church continues to capitulate. Ms. Folger also pays homage to the ideology and principles of President Ronald Reagan and his stand against special interest groups that represent small fractions of society. Miss Folger wraps up her book by calling all Christians to become pro-active and stop just defending themselves from the ceaseless attacks.

This was a fast-read and troubling because it is on target of what is happening.

Written in 2005, it is frightening to see how far left our society has shifted morally since then. Filled with accounts of attempts to curtail, punish, and persecute the expression of the Christian faith, many of the predictions made have since come true. Though dated, it is still an excellent primer on the topic especially in light of the recent Supreme Court decision recognizing gay marriage and the many attacks on Christians' expression of their faith in the marketplace. Pastors and churches need to take notice and disciple their congregations in being responsible Christian citizens by participating in the process and voting Biblically here in America while we still have our religious freedom. Otherwise, we may not have the freedom to practice our religion or share the Gospel in the near future.

I read this some years ago, and reread it today, impressed with the number of cultural predictions that have since come true about the increasing laws criminalizing Christianity in our society. This book was well thought-out and well researched, containing fact after fact after fact, all carefully documented, with resources included. It reminded me of Dr. David Jeremiah's "I Never Thought I'd See the Day," and took up where that book ended. In turn, conditions have already worsened since this book was published.
