Ben is delighted by a snowy morning; his older sister, Joan, wants to make it even more special. She uses things from the kitchen to make a whimsical snow surprise for him, but it’s almost ruined by the woodland creatures. Luckily, Ben doesn’t see a ruined snow surprise, he sees something even better!

This was an adorable little story that my 4 year old son absolutely loved. Cute story, beautiful illustrations! A win for all!

The children were excited because it had snowed. The older sister hurried outside to made her little brother a surprise. Which was a snowman with things on it to feed the wildlife and birds. But when she went in to get her brother to show him the surprise. Their dog and the wildlife get into a fight and knocks down the snowman. At first she was disappointed but when her brother saw it he was excited because it looked just like a snow mouse!

A fun book for younger children, and those looking to read on their own, about winter.
I really enjoy Lisa Campbell Ernst's books - both the stories and the illustrations - always lively & often with an unexpected twist.

When Ben looks out the window and sees the first snowfall, he is excited to tell his sister Joan. Joan tells Ben to stay inside while she goes outside to make a surprise in the snow. When she finishes and goes inside to get Ben, Joan is in for an even bigger surprise when she and Ben return.

Joan and her brother Ben are enchanted by the first snowfall of the season. Joan runs outside to create a Snow Surprise for Ben. She loads her pockets with apples, nuts, corn, and toast. But, the surprise is on Joan when the woodland animals sniff out her creation. Ben saves the day when his mind's eye sees something that Joan never dreamed of.
