Love Trumps Game
After her daughter’s disappearance, a world-weary grandmother becomes the guardian of her two streetwise grandchildren—but their no-good father will do anything to get them back.
After twenty-nine years of marriage, Hattie has paid her dues. She’s now retired and looking forward to enjoying her peaceful golden years. Unfortunately, her calm life is changed forever when her daughter Neema mysteriously disappears and she finds herself to be the sole guardian of her two unruly grandchildren.
To make matters worse, their crazed father, Topps Jackson, is determined to get them back. A ruthless drug dealer, Topps runs a dangerously lucrative drug trafficking operation. Now Topps wants to bring his young son into the business at an early age. The only person standing in his way is Hattie Sims—grandmother or not, Hattie has to go.
Driven away by his constant threats, Hattie is forced to live her life on the run, depending on friends and family members to shield her and two grandchildren from danger. But there seems to be no place to hide from a monster like Topps Jackson. Hattie’s options are running out. Soon Topps will find her. Realizing that she can’t run forever, Hattie decides that enough is enough. She decides to stop running and face the monster for the last showdown.

Love Trumps Game
I loved this story! I could understand the love the grandmother had for her kids and grandchildren. I’m glad she had the courage to do what she thought was necessary for her family 🥰

LOVE TRUMPS GAME
by D.Y. Phillips
“Monster”
Hattie Sims is looking forward to enjoying her early retirement. Little does she realize that this is not going to happen anytime soon. With her youngest daughter, Neema, constantly leaving her two children behind and disappearing for days on end, leaves Hattie little time to herself. Not only is she taking care of her bad ass little grandchildren, but she has to deal with their crazed father, Topps Jackson, whom is a ruthless drug dealer.
When Neema, mysteriously disappears, Hattie has a feeling that Topps has something to do with her disappearance. When Topps comes to the door demanding his children and Hattie refuses to relinquish them, he is determined to get them back…one way or another. Issuing threats that Hattie does not take lightly, forces her and the children on the run, staying with friends, family and strangers.
Will Neema resurface? Dead or alive? Who or what is behind Neema’s disappearance? What will become of Hattie and the children? These are immediate questions you will be asking yourself, while you are constantly turning the pages to find out what happens next.
LOVE TRUMPS GAME by D.Y. Phillips will have you engrossed from the very first page. It is rare that you will find that perfect book, mixed with all the elements of a 5 star read, that you just want to tell everyone to run out and get. LOVE TRUMPS GAME was one of those books. It had me on an emotional rollercoaster with all the drama and suspense. LOVE TRUMPS GAME is an on the edge of your seat page-turner. This is one of the best books I have read so far in 2009.

Honestly, I read this book about a few years ago and still remember the details fairly well. Basically a grandmother forced to take care of unruly grandchildren after their mother "mysteriously" dissappears. All thanks to ... (spoiler) her boyfriend who was extremely abusive and controlling. Let's just say Topps Jackson had a very messed up way of thinking when it came to morals, love, and relationships. However aside from the abusive boyfriend, graphic sex scences and disrespectful grandchildren I would say as a reader this book has a entertaining plot with twists and surprises. Sounds cliché but seriously I loved this book. The ending I think was the most action packed . Overall the message is strong and empowering and I loved it. :)
P.s Did I mention the intro was PERFECT . The description of Topps was SPOT- ON.

Poor Hattie! Her youngest daughter, Neema, is a handful and constantly dumps her two children on her and disappears leaving Hattie to care for her young grandchildren. Topps is a brutal man who treats women badly.
This book is extremely vulgar and violent ... surprising considering the author is a woman.
That said, it's a good story about a grandmother's love and protection of her grandchildren regardless of the cost.

This was a very interesting read. The way Brandon talked to his elders made me want to jump through the book and beat the crap out of him. He's seven, for goodness sake! TJ was the craziest dopeman I've ever read about. Still had some ends loose with Myra and her husband, but still a good read.

Riveting book about a grandmother trying to shield her two grandchildren from their dangerous drug dealer father who continuously threatens her life. She also attempts to search for her missing daughter who she fears has met with foul play. I read this one in one sitting, so good it was.
