This is somewhat old writing (1917) but there was much for me to learn from it. My favorite chapters were on Benjamin Franklin and Louis Pasteur.

The first flights of the Orville Brothers are so ingrained in our minds—we even visited the Kitty Hawk historical site--that it may be a huge surprise to hear of Samuel Pierpoint Langley as the inventor of the airplane. There is no mention of the Orville brothers here.
