About the author

Alfred Price seved for 16 years as an aircrew officer in the Royal air Force where he specialised in electronic warfare and air fighting tactics.

He left the RAF in 1974 and thereafter he worked full time as a writer on aviation subjects.

He holds a PhD in history from Loughborough University and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.

Published in 1976, 'The Bomber in World War II' analyses the development of bomber aircraft technology and the associated tactics during the Second World War. The technology aspect is addressed by looking at specific types that were regarded as 'state of the art' at different points in time during the conflict, and examining their performance. The analysis of tactics does explain how the state of technology often determined the tactics, and also spends quite a few pages examining the formations evolved by USAAF bomber formations during the conflict. The short length of the book suggests that this cannot be anywhere near a comprehensive coverage of the subject, but is nonetheless a fascinating piece of reading.
