With 8 colour plates, black and white photographs, and numerous line drawings.
I read the 1953 edition and was absolutely fascinated, 1953 was the year I was born and I went on to have a 36 year career at sea. Most of the ships in the book had long gone by the time I joined the Royal Navy but nonetheless it made for great reading. The additional information, Rule Of The Road, Plimsoll Marks is just as relevant today. Great little book.
My Observers Book of Ships was bought in the mid-sixties. Always had a fascination for ships and the sea. At three years old I would sit on my old man's knee and he would draw silhouettes of ships. He was a Petty Officer in the Royal Navy. That's why I became a ship's Officer in the Merchant Navy. It seeps into the blood, like rum.
