This book gives a good insight into living in Japan and covers a wide range of topics, from housing, where to live, renting, finding a job, medical care, driving and schools to socialising, Japanese culture, customs and finance. It is very comprehensive and thorough, gives information on useful sites and also various aspects of their unique work culture and customs. The downside is that it is very outdated now, so a lot had changed since this book was published. But for a general gist of Japan life, it does serve its purpose.
