3.5 stars! Super helpful and the title tells you exactly what the book is great for! It holds amazing tips for Canadian gardeners but all the other tips are similar to other gardening books I've read recently and really weren't super new information. But this gave me exactly what I wanted and if I had picked this book up first, I would know all the basic information necessary to build a successful garden. Douglas Green also had a great way of writing that was super personable, genuine and entertaining for a book that would be no fun without it! I always love when information based books are narrated with such a positive can-do attitude that is as encouraging as this one.
Very helpful. I liked that it was based in my climate zone, which makes everything easier. Reading in American books that I can harvest something in November always makes me shake my head, since I'll be climbing through snow drifts to do so (exageration, ;D).
He's a little pompous, and talks about "well, in my nursury" a lot, but if you want good info on vegetables and herbs, especially to start out, grab this one.
I'll return to it at other stages of my garden... probably in winter when I'm prepping seeds for the spring.
