Pokémon is one of the most popular and successful entertainment franchises in the world, encompassing video games, the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), mobile games and apps, animation and movies, Play! Pokémon competitive events, and licensed products. It was first established in Japan in 1996 with the launch of the Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green video games for the Game Boy™ system. The video games were released internationally in 1998 as Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue. More than 20 years later, Pokémon continues to be a global entertainment mainstay and pop culture icon.

Obviously a child who loves Pokémon will love this, so an easy 5-stars.

From the blurb:
“In this Annual, you can join the gang and take your own Trainer skills up a level, learn from the best in the incredible stories, scan through recently discovered Pokémon in the A-Z, and find out if you’re Master Trainer material in the puzzles.”

So it’s your typical, glossy, full-colour annual. There are a lot of puzzles, a couple of 8-page stories (with pictures), and a 13-page Pokédex A-Z section (the best bit in my opinion). And it’s 100% official.

It may be only 72-pages, and the price will probably drop after Christmas, but in the meantime it is an ideal gift for my Pokémon-loving son.
