** Update 10/15/24**
See my review of “If I Live” by Molly Black. I don’t have the patience to go down the rabbit hole again.

This was very much the same as the 1st Ruby Hunter novel for me- entertaining but nothing spectacular. This series has overall great promise but I’m sure that it’s hard to really develop with such short novels (the characters need more depth, we need more information on Lucky 13, we need more clues/current case information). I think my biggest beef with this novel, though, was how they just brought in a Red Herring and then pretended he didn’t exist. No explanation of what happened with him or why he did what he did, just *poof* gone. Much too big a plot hole for me.

Like I said in my review of the 1st book- it’s entertaining like an episode of Law & Order with much the same cringe dialogue and plot holes. But I did enjoy it and as the novels are short, I’ll probably continue the series.

Second in the light-weight series by Black. She has tons of books out there, as she clearly rips through the simplistic plots and doesn't worry about rewrites or more realistic situations. Her unreliable narrator is irritating, as it doesn't advance the story, rather it applies a cheap technique to supposedly enhance the tension... which is spoiled the moment she flashes back in time and reveals what really happened. Cheap trick. Her FBI idiot agents (no doubt reflecting the idiots currently testifying in Congress) repeatedly do stupid things that they have already overtly discussed... don't go alone. Hunter's (come on, Hunter? Really?) visits to the imprisoned serial killer are always clumsy and she's always oblivious until too late. Sheesh. Fortunately, these are breezy reads. 90 min or less. A good brief break between chapters of more intense and challenging reads.

Although Ruby hates to acknowledge it, her life is intertwined with that of the Killer 13. She was able to put him behind bars and is now faced with trying to solve a very similar case with his same modus operandi. How many crazy followers does he have? How many leads will he give her if she visits him again in prison? She is faced with a new strong lead when she revisits her sister's file, will she be able to pursue it?
I thank the author for the ARC and apologize for being late in posting my review.

Ruby Hunter is still hauntedby the death of her partnerby aserial killer. Now she has a new partner they are feeling their way along in their new investigation. Now it looks like there is either a copycat or a deciple carrying out the original killer’s instructions. Terrifying and complex thriller that nearly has tragic consequences for Ruby.

Book 2 in series is very similar to book one. Very quick reads but nothing terribly unique or special.
I do like the clues and I picked up on some before the FBI agent did so I find that relatively less believable.
I’ll try one more in this series, but then I think I’ll have overdosed on the concept

Great book

I enjoy reading Molly Black books and this one does not disappoint. I like how finding the killer comes about. Ruby and Gabe have to dig deep to find their man. This book will grab you from the beginning and not let up until the last page.

This is the second book in the FBI Ruby Hunter series. After reading the first book I was really looking forward to this one. It seemed to drag in places and I had a bit of a hard time keeping focused. The suspense did pick up a bit toward the end.

I always like a "who done it" but this was a little confusing at times and a lack luster ending. I don't think I'll read any more about the number 13. But I'll definitely read Molly's other detective's series.

Really enjoyed the first book in this series, but this one just felt like a copy and paste of the first. Don't think it helped that I read them back to back.
Will try some of this authors other series but not sure I will continue with this series.

The second instalment in the Ruby Hunter series. This one follows the same formula as the first one, but it's a formula that works and the small twist at the end made me borrow the next book right away. I am interested to see where this story goes.
