Dr. Ann Louise was recognized as one of the top ten nutritionists in the country by Self magazine and was the recipient of the American Medical Writers Association award for excellence.

She was the first to warn of the environmental hazards of parasites in her classic Guess What Came To Dinner? Parasites and Your Health. In Your Body Knows Best, Dr. Ann Louise was the first to discuss the blood type/weight theory and proclaim that one diet may not be right for every body - an idea that is only now becoming mainstream. She was the first to offer natural remedies for menopausal symptoms in Super Nutrition for Menopause (now in print as Hot Times) and is widely credited as the first to popularize the term “perimenopause” in her New York Times bestseller, Before The Change.

Dr. Ann Louise forged new ways of thinking about obesity early on in her career. She was the first to proclaim that obesity was caused by the lack of dietary fats and the wrong kind of carbohydrates in her book Beyond Pritikin, published in 1988. In Beyond Pritikin, she predicted that the fat-free, carb-rich diet was creating weight gain, sugar cravings, fatigue and diabetes.

Today, she continues to dedicate herself to carving out new landmarks in holistic health and healing based on science and ancient healing arts. Through her many books, website, and blog (Dr. Ann Louise’s Edge on Health), Dr. Ann Louise offers a “virtual” health support system for men and women that provides educational and self-health assessment services to empower people everywhere to achieve total health. Her latest book, a companion to the bestselling Fat Flush Plan, was released in December 2009. Fat Flush for Life, takes a seasonal approach to burn stubborn body fat all year long, integrating groundbreaking new Fat Flush diets with corresponding fitness and wellness programs.

This book contains a mix of information on diet and on detoxification.

Overall the content is very solid, far more so than in many other books on this topic which tend to be quite superficial.

It was great to read a book that understands the huge benefits of healthy fats and isn't fat phobic, or salt phobic. The recommendations for sauna use, and instructions for various sorts of cleanses (Castor oil packs, coffee enemas, oil pulling, dry body brushing etc.) were good as well.

However I don't agree with the recommendation of whey protein (as this isn't at all a whole food), FOS powder (which some claim feeds Candida and causes other digestive problems) or see the need to buy expensive bottled cranberry juice - freshly made juices of a wide variety of vegetables just have to be better for you, in my opinion. Have a glass of fresh vegetable juice each day rather than the cranberry juice drink, I say - or replace it with some apple cider vinegar in water as the author suggests.

I don't think you need to follow every single suggestion of the author's to see benefits. Just do the best with what you can and buy the best quality seasonal and if possible local and organic produce you can afford and don't worry too much about doing everything recommended in the book perfectly.

Overall this book is a valuable contributor to this topic and provides lots of useful information for those that want to maintain their health or even improve it a bit. (It may also be useful if you want to lose weight but improving your health is the main focus.)

Many of the same topics are also covered, albeit with more of a focus on treating serious health conditions, in excellent books by Dr Sherry Rogers such as Detoxify or Die and Wellness Against All Odds.

A worthy companion to the first book (The Fat Flush Plan). The author gives more information on vegetarian versions of detoxing, which is why I bought the book (had to wing it with the other one). She gives good research in the opening chapters, and offers some seasonal advice, some of which is very good.

There is, of course, a preoccupation with weight loss rather than health. I guess I'm not a weight loss person. I'm a person who wants a healthy body. So, the things in the book where she says, "Do this because you'll lose more weight," rather than "when you do this, the research shows that your liver, etc., is able to do x" tend to put me off.

I have gained a lot of benefit from her two books, and my liver, kidneys, and lymph system are much cleaner and happier.

This book is much better in the organization area than the first.

Mostly a very practical book in that I believe in a lot of her "diet" plan. however some of the claims she makes are questionable and a few practices that she recommends (oil pulling, really?). There is a bit too much "selling" of her specially designed products that supposedly do all sorts of lovely, healthy things for you.

Certainly I would do well to do an eating plan that encompasses half of what she recommends, perhaps I will make better choices, as I have been reminded once again that I know what they are and it is within my ability to choose more wisely.

Ann Gittleman has a different set of foods you should eat for each season of the year. She has a number of different recipes in the back of the book to try. I tried the dried garbonzo beans and enjoyed them.

Good book, well written, good information and solid research. I really liked this book, especially after the last 'diet' book I read. I may need a copy of this one for my own library; I love the sound of some of those snacks!
