About the author

Moustafa Gadalla is an Egyptian-American independent Egyptologist, who was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1944. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Cairo University.

Gadalla is the author of twenty two published internationally acclaimed books about the various aspects of the Ancient Egyptian history and civilization and its influences worldwide.

He is the Founder and Chairman of the Tehuti Research Foundation (www.Egypt-Tehuti.org)—an international, U.S.-based, non-profit organization, dedicated to Ancient Egyptian studies. He is also the Founder and Head of the on-line Egyptian Mystical University (www.EgyptianMysticalUniversity.org).

From his early childhood, Gadalla pursued his Ancient Egyptian roots with passion, through continuous study and research. Since 1990, he has dedicated and concentrated all his time to researching and writing.

Very rarely do I get it wrong when selecting a book worth devoting my time to reading, but, on rare occasions, I do. This is one such book. Where to begin? For one thing, it's poorly organized with the author delving into minutiae about the Egyptian zodiac, and trying to argue that Ancient Egypt's civilized history really extends back 30,000 years --- which would be fascinating if supported by archaeological evidence and historical records, but the author provides nothing more than that. Then it's followed by lengthy conjecture about the real age of the Sphinx and who really made it. And then there are several chapters that seem to veer into some New Age mumbo-jumbo. But the other also allows his own biases and even bigotry to get involved --- at one point even suggesting that today's Coptic Christians in modern Egypt today are not really Egyptians but really foreign interlopers and that, regarding their persecution by other Egyptians, they "asked for it." Then there's a grade school level error where the author refers to Egypt's "Assyrian invaders" as "European" (they aren't, they're Asiatic). Finally after wading through nine painful chapters of this nonsense does the reader finally get to anything actually covering Ancient Egyptian culture. But even here, the author allows his own antagonism to generally claim that western archaeologists and scientists have worked wrongly to attribute achievements to Greece, Rome, Babylon, etc, etc, when really Egypt developed them first. At times, this tiresome over-generalization about Westerner and attempts to claim Egypt got their first came to resemble the father on "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" who argues that all words ultimately came from Greek --- almost comical, in other words. In fact, quite the contrary to his claims, I've found in every text written by Westerners on Ancient Egypt that I have read in my year long study of Ancient Egypt is that they are impressed and awe-struck by Egypt's achievements and do give this civilization its due. But enough on all this ---- I cannot recommend this book. If you want a book on Ancient Egyptian culture, there are many better ones --- go with them.

This is another fine book by Moustafa Gadalla. The work covers many aspects of Ancient Egyptian culture including the religion, building of temples, practice of medicine, music and dance, geography, science, economics, trade and more. It emphasises the antiquity of Ancient Egyptian civilization and how many of its practices have been adopted by cultures which followed it.
Recommended reading for anyone interested in Ancient Egyptian history.
