Sergeant Talon Stiler thought he’d been through hell. Then he got sent to Baker V.
Stiler thought he was out - discharged from the Terran Union Marines with all four limbs and a gold watch - until a devastating attack by the hated alien Dioscuri drags him right back in again. In a flash, a war fought on the frontier of human-controlled space comes close to home, pushing humanity to the brink.
Now responsible for the development of the Union’s most secretive weapon system, Stiler and his ragtag crew of Marines have one chance to turn the tide of the war. Their mission: rescue a stranded scientist who might have discovered the key to winning the war from an occupied planet deep behind enemy lines.
Steve P. Vincent lives with his wife in a pokey apartment in Melbourne’s north-west, where he’s forced to write on the couch in front of an obnoxiously large television.
When he’s not writing, Steve keeps food and flat whites on the table working for the man. He enjoys beer, whisky, sports and dreaming up ever more elaborate conspiracy theories to write about.
He has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Political Science and History. His honours thesis was on the topic of global terrorism. He has travelled extensively through Europe, the United States and Asia.
Descent Into the Void - Book 1 - buckle in, it's going to be a rough ride
An action intense of chaotic thriller with a solid group characters. A battle against mechanical beings intent on domination is the opportunity to see what you're made of for a group of survivors. Their best chance of survival is a new ecosystem that gives the humans a chance against the invaders. But, ongoing malfunctions of the war machines may sideline this last hope. If you enjoy space adventures, Descent Into the Void will satisfy the urge.
First, there were plot holes I could fly a spacecraft through, story tangents that made no sense, and a main character I can't decide if I want to have a drink with or throw it in his face. Now here I am, finished, with an odd unresolved question whether I want to continue the series...but certainly not right now...
Against All Odds🌍💫🚀 Battling Aliens👽 and Traitorous Allies 👺 I enjoyed all the action in this novel but there were places where It was illogical. The main character Sergeant Stiler🐺💪🔪💥🔫 would have taken weapons from all of the dead bodies💀 that were everywhere throughout this novel. That was one of the main problems I had with The fighting during the many Ground. battles that occurred in this book. I Stiler🐺💪🔪💥🔫 is an opportunist, a MacGyver in Space💫, who Figures out all kinds of ways to get out of terrible situations but he never once picks up a gun🔫 from someone that he killed💀. It sure would have helped him in his battle against unstoppable aliens👽👽👽 to turn their own firepower back against them. I got this book from Amazon📚 for $0. Unfortunately the remaining books📚 in the series are $4.99 each and I can't afford them because I read so many books all the time, usually Several per day. I did greatly enjoy this novel though.
The first handful of chapters, 10 perhaps, started out interesting enough with a mix of aliens, marines, navy and living on other planets. However, I felt it was all over the place with way too many way for the story to go. The way it went wasn't any of the way I expect. Which is why I continued to read it. While I was in the melee of chapters not knowing which direction the author would finally pick for the plot, I thought of adding this as the first book ever to go on my DNF list. Reading on, I realized Steve wanted to confuse his readers to land this hard hitting plot on us. If you like action books, marines and aliens you should check out this book and series. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series and see what kind of action filled ride we are on.
This science fiction novel felt like I was reading a poorly edited sample. There were many typos, missing words, half sentences, not that I couldn’t figure out the intent, but I was really disappointed as I’ve not experienced it before. The story line was just ok, nothing new, or even that interesting. I wouldn’t recommend it.
I'm not usually into 'space marines vs the aliens' but I did generally enjoy the book.
BUT there were points talking about 'the rest of the squad' (or similar wording) which actually meant one marine and the scientist. I had to check/re-check how many were present. Numbers should have been logical.
It wasn’t a bad book, it was a pretty interesting read, but there were portions where I felt the characters got a bit too dry. This would have been a fun video game, I feel. It reminded me a little about Mass Effect, but with exosuits instead. I am interested to see what happens next but I’m not sure if I’ll enjoy the reading again. We’ll see how it goes!
Striker is a marine,he earns an honourable discharge and returns to find his wife I the arms of another man. He 'renlists to join a special.unit only to be betrayed bunnies commanding general.
Steve P. Vincent is a good story teller. The book is a science fiction and action thriller as the author claims. The story is gripping with lot of twists and good suspense.
Well... this was one of those "Bookbub" cheap books... and it was barely OK. Your average "space marine in a big battle suit" kinda book, but terrible plot and changes. That, and a train-wreck of an ending... well, 3 stars is giving it a bit more than it deserved.
Old-fashioned interstellar war,and proof that whatever advances are made in weapons and equipment, the Marine Corps and the individual Marine never does
Utter garbage, suitable for basement incels. Chock full of editing errors. So glad it was free. Is this even a real person, or is this bargain basement AI?
squalor in trenches of "mud, human filth, and moldy rations" Vincent captures the futility of war, where individuals, directed by politicos, sacrifice for their fellows in deplorable conditions. Sgt Talon Stiler, Terra Union Marines, takes us the bloodbath in Rivet City.
An enemy soldier, a "teenager, bloody, dirty, and hopeless, a haunted look on his face" returns the invader's kindness, offering a lead that could end the conflict, save thousands. Only because Stiler's second, Cpl Gracie Liebowitz, and most Marines fall.
Vincent even records pain of "survivors". Those who return suffer in mind and body. Wives tire waiting. Are family benefits of free education +, worth no husband?
Squad Motto:Do it or die Vincent paces chapters on target: up highs safe, for the time being. Low, bottoms out, betrayed, shocked, his heart shrinks in despair. Methinks my metaphors are mumbo-jumbled. But Vincent is not. Talon is punished hard as fighter. Rewarded. Punished for doing right, or no just reason.
Sent to River City, slog, bomb ticks down. Out. Home. Or is he? Back enlisted. Blows money on fun. Gives the wrong guy his right answer. Held in galaxy's worst jail. Out. Hundreds on suicide mission. Down to one fellow. Remember betrayals.
Whew. Rollercoaster. Reread tied emotions same again. Though plot skeleton easy to remember. Struggle up. Slide down backwards. Repeat. Again. Just, as in justice, for finale ?
