A good book that offers a good overview of the core mythologies of the British Isles. Squire differentiates between the indigenous peoples and the two Celtic tribes who later invaded. The comparison with invading Roman mythology and that of the Saxon and Scandinavian invaders is also welcome. The detail on the Arthurian myths is intriguing and I suspect that Squire may have desired to write a great deal more, settling instead for a comparison and retelling here.
What is lacking however is a set of citations and references. We have no idea where the source material that Squires refers to is found, or to the sources of literary and theological theories of which frequent reference is made.
