This is a book about the USS Constitution itself. After a few chapters summarizing its history, the rest of the book discusses its present (1993) state and gives recommendations for the 1995 repair work. My edition has a summary of this work written in 1997, the first time the Constitution had sailed for decades. Gillmer manages a good mix of the human and physical history of the ship, with a focus on preservation and restoration.[return]I picked this up in anticipation of a visit to the USS Constitution this summer and can't wait to go!
