In a riff on the classic cautionary tale "The Three Little Pigs," Paul Carrick retells and imaginatively illustrates this story of three robot brothers. When Mother Robot finishes programming them, it’s time to send them out into the world. But she warns them to be careful of Wolfgang the Recycler. If he catches them, he’ll use their parts for his own ill-gotten gains.
Rod is a mama’s robot and desperate for nurturing. Slick is vain and easily won over with a compliment. And Dudley is . . . well, a dud who likes mud. Can they protect themselves from the greedy Wolfgang?
The illustrations in WATCH OUT FOR WOLFGANG are made of shaped plastic, wires, bits of screen, and other recycled materials.
Three robots build their own special houses only to have the dreaded Wolfgang appear to huff, and puff, and destroy those abodes. Being a robot fan, I thought I'd enjoy this one more, but I found the artwork off-putting.
I like this book! I like the message that shows the students that they don't need to be the best looking or the smartest in order to be successful. Students just need to be themselves. The author uses robots, a subject that a lot of students are interested in. And the pictures that the author uses almost make the pictures look 3-dimensional. I think this would be a good book to read from kindergarten to third grade. I think i's a book that they would really like.
Robots! And the 3 Little Pigs? I'm a bit tired of the traditional story -- "Little pig, little pig, let me in!" and all that. But substitute robots instead of pigs and I liked it. Cute, amusing story.
All about being yourself, even as a robot... kind of a 3 little pigs adaptation... Read this book aloud way too many times, my son's favorite book. He carefully watched which books were going into storage, being given away and coming to Hong Kong, this was on the top of the Hong Kong pile.
This is a great book to motivate boys to read and or little girls who are interested in robots. This book is a "robotic" version of the three little pigs. This book also integrates science an literature together.
