Maura Keegan, addicted to vampire romance novels, decides to add a gothic section to her vintage clothing store in SoHo. What better way to get a tax-deductible trip to Romania — and meet her future vampire mate?
Adrian, a sexy vampire living right under her nose in New York, owns a vineyard in France producing very special wine for exclusive clients. It allows him and others like him to walk in daylight and avoid snacking on strangers.
He's horrified to learn that the redhead he admires is planning to visit Romania to summon a "real" vampire. Adrian has every intention of being that vampire. Only trouble is, she thinks he's a wino tourist intent on spoiling her fun. A visit to his wacky Romanian family might help convince her he's for real, or send her screaming into the night.
Ashlyn Chase has been a registered nurse for 20 years. During those years, she wrote articles for professional journals and a thesis, but eventually, thank goodness, discovered the joy and freedom of writing fiction.
Ashlyn considers herself lucky. Her degree in behavioral sciences is a combination of psychology and sociology, so she has worked with and studied people most of her life. She never has to write out exhaustive character sketches to understand her characters or predict how they will behave. That doesn't mean they don't surprise her. Sometimes they take her on grand unexpected journeys. For her, it gives "character driven novels" a whole new meaning.
Ashlyn has learned to go with the flow. To enjoy the journey is not only one of her writing goals, but also a challenge in life so she tries to follow where the story takes her. As such, she has lived in 17 different places over the years. At last, she's all settled down and comfy in New England.
Is there a grand design or do we decide our own fates? Perhaps if the powers-that-be have a plot, then they also give us the right to revise it. Ashlyn has certainly made detours on her path, but she thinks she's better for it. She's having fun at any rate and hopes that if she enjoys the journey, so will those around her—including her readers.
This has to be one of my favourite vampire books of all time. Adrian, the hero, is just so gorgeous and Maura, the heroine, is so touching and funny. Ashlyn Chase has a knack of creating vulnerability and emotion in her very sexy characters and erotic scenes, and the comedy has me laughing out loud. If you need a sexy smile in your day, read this!
I JUST FINISHED READING *VAMPIRE VINTAGE.* BY ASHLYN CHASE. I LAUGHED, AT THE HERO’S CRAZY FAMILY AND WAS SURPRISED AT HOW UNIQUELY SHE GOT RID OF THE VILLAIN. THIS STORY IS FULL TWISTS AND TURNS THAT GRIP YOU FROM PAGE ONE TO THE END. THE PACING, DIALOGUE AND NARRATIVE WAS GREAT. AND I DISAGREE WITH THE ROMANTIC TIMES REVIEW, I DON’T THINK THE ENDING WAS A BIT CONTRIVED. IT WAS A PERFECT ROMANTIC ENDING. MY ONLY KIND. I’VE READ MANY DESCRIPTIONS ON HOW AUTHOR’S DESCRIBE THE BREAST, BUT ASHLYN’S IS THE BEST AND I QUOTE: “DID SHE KNOW SHE WAS FLAUNTING HER THOUSAND-CARAT CABOCHONS?” NOW, WOULDN’T YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH HER VAMPIRE HERO? I DID.
Wow, Editor(s) should be fired: 1) Story was so full of non-sequitur - I had to re-read several passages and it often STILL did not make sense. Then I got to the one where Vampirella just disappears from the story line~Poof! Gone and the reader has no clue where she went. Bad, bad, bad. 2) Was starting to get a bit sick hearing about Catholicism. Especially when it props up male chauvinism and proves an excuse for Maura's sexual perversions. Weird. 3) Maura is a twit. Adrian is lame. The chemistry is non-existent. The sex scenes are ok; just that they like to do it bizarre locations. 0 to 100 mph with no transition. Not much in the romance dept. just sex. 4) Last half of the book jumped around so much, I nearly didn't finish. I guess, if you go to Ireland, you have to visit the Leprechauns. So many open-ended questions and unresolved issues. The only reason this gets 2 stars, is that for the most part, Chase offers new material, if in a tourist guide kind of way. She just isn't able to weave it together into a coherent plot. There were also quite a few grammar mistakes, which makes me question her editor(s)' resume. Oh, well. Already bought book 2 and hope she's found her footing.
I ran across Ashlyn’s books on Audible and was an instant fan. I so disliked vampire romances until I listened to some of her other books. So when I saw this book I knew it would be a book I would enjoy. I loved the interaction Maura had with with her horny devil and her angel. I thought she was a bit foolish to want a vampire lover but Adrian was so much more. The steam was pretty good too. I loved their HEA and how the story ended. Now I have book 2 to read so goodbye!
I’m unfortunately left disappointed with this book. I feel like there were parts that needed a lot more explaining and other parts that needed much less. The characters were not the most likable at times as they could come off as cold and flat. Also, for a book that was incredibly drawn out the ending was super rushed. Just felt like the story as a whole would be great but it needed some work to make it feel more cohesive.
Comically bad. Almost worth reading just to laugh at how poorly it's written. I think I made it through 20% of the book. This read like fan fiction written by a teenage girl, interspersed by sex scenes ghost written by someone who'd actually had sex.
Also, is no one else bothered by the casual approach to tax evasion? Or the "hero" spying from the heroine's fire escape and using mind control to make her strip in front of him? Yikes!
I really enjoyed this book. A new favorite. Will most assuredly be a keeper to be reread in the future. Can not wait to read the other two books in the series. Look forward to them. Love Ashlynn Chase a favorite author.
I really enjoyed the new twist to a Vampire story. I had quite a few laugh out loud moments with this book, the tours, the family vampires all a great read. Well worth a read.
Ms Chase seems to have a penchant for full-figured busty heroines, and the protagonist of Vampire Vintage is no exception.
The opening of the book is a total attention grabber: a bunch of drunken middle-aged ladies romping naked in Central Park to help Maura, the heroine, summon the vampire lover she dreams of.
After the starry skyclad ritual, Maura sets off on a package tour of vampire country in Romania, partly to stock up on vampire/goth clothing for her boutique, partly in the hope of meeting the vampire lover she may or may not have succeeded in summoning -- little knowing that he's already heard the call and decided to join her package tour.
A rollicking chick-lit yarn with lots of action both in and out of bed. Perfectly pitched except for the the stereotyped description of Maura's Irish family and their cheerful 'top o' the morning' greetings.
The first half of the book was just ok for me and although it is a unique storyline I was expecting more pizazz. Things just happened too easily when I almost wanted to make both Maura and Adrian to have to work harder to get what they wanted. Based on the summary, I also thought that Maura’s journey would take up most of the book but everything in the summary happened by about the half way mark.
I ended up taking a break from this book at 57% (thank you Kindle app for that precise percentage). I read four books before I decided that I was ready to come back to Vampire Vintage. I did enjoy the second half more; it was a bit more interesting and there was even some action to hold my attention. I'm glad that I decided to finish it.
This book was ok for me and was recommended by friends who enjoyed the Sookie Stackhouse series. Vampire Vintage is entertaining and has a humorous blend of supernatural with erotica. This book is not one of my favourites but it was a nice light read before delving into another Ellen Hopkins novel.
I loved Ashlyn Chase's more tame romance books. This more erotic novel was interesting, but not as well written as some of the others. Still, I enjoyed the book and read to the end. It did seem to end with a bit of a stretch.
