If you want happy Matt Murdock, don't look for him with Brubaker.

Lady Bullseye continues the trend of Matt having a terrible love life, largely through his own choices. In this volume, collecting issues 111-115, the organization of asshole ninjas known as the Hand has fallen apart in the wake of the revelation that their leader Elektra was a Skrull (that went right over my non-Marvel reading head).

One of the Hand leaders has hired a new, deadly assassin named Lady Bullseye to cement his claim to power. Unfortunately for Matt Murdock, she has her own plans that involve (as usual) going after anyone Matt has ever cared about.

Matt meanwhile, is making more poor emotional decisions. Hard to blame the guy for not having his head on straight while his wife is in a mental hospital but

I found Lady Bullseye to be a much more interesting character than I at first suspected and I liked that her plans were more complicated than "let's just murder everyone Matt's ever loved." While it's almost never lighthearted, I like that Brubaker puts Matt through the wringer while never turning him into a one dimensional character. I may not agree with every choice Matt makes but at least I can understand why he's doing it. And I gotta say that I love having Foggy, Becky, Danny Rand and Dakota North as secondary characters and Matt's main support.

Overall, another strong volume in the great Brubaker/Lark run on Daredevil and I'm very curious to see where they take Daredevil in the last volume of this run.

Collecting issues 111 to 115. An assassin from the evil Hand clan of ninjas (Lady Bullseye, a fan of the original Bullseye) begins stalking Daredevil's associates and making life difficult for Matt Murdock. Meanwhile, Matt and his colleague, P.I. Dakota North, spend a night together; Matt immediately feels guilty for cheating on his estranged wife and using Dakota. A net closes on Matt as the Hand hunt him for a reason he would never expect.

A character called "Lady Bullseye" has no business being as interesting as she ends up being; her origin is simple and an effective merging of two of Daredevil's biggest thorns in his side, resulting in a cold and focused adept of Bullseye that unquestioningly pursues the Hand's goals. Matt's further digging himself in deeper with Dakota seems at first like a stupid mistake, though Matt as a person would surely be in need of some comfort after everything that's happened, and it further serves as a tool the Hand uses to isolate Matt. The reason the Hand ensnares Matt is compelling and paves the way for the next year and a half of stories.

Daredevil works best when it's presented as a crime story. However, Daredevil also works as a ninja story, and that's what this one was. We are introduced to Lady Bullseye, who shows up with the Hand in order to recruit Daredevil into the organization. Ninja and noir don't seem like the best mix, but with Daredevil, it works. (Although I do have one complaint. Does Daredevil have to sleep with every hot woman that appears in a book with him? I mean, come on, gimme a break here!)

A good volume, and seems to be laying the groundwork for Shadowland.

Daredevil gets into another romantic relationship that might be a bad idea and while that is all happening he gets a revisit from his old enemies, The Hand, which includes some new characters like Izo and Lady Bullseye. There are reappearances by Black Tarantula and White Tiger. This volume is particularly heavy in action and mystery. Oh, and the in-laws try to take Milla away from Matt Murdock. After all the previous Brubaker editions that had heavy character and story details this was a nice action galore break.

Ed Brubaker won the 2007 Harvey Award for Best Writer.

ARTWORK: B to B plus; CHARACTERS/DIALOGUE: B plus; STORY/PLOTTING: B plus; ACTION SCENES: B plus; WHEN READ: mid March 2012; OVERALL GRADE: B plus.

Lady Bullseye enters the story and attempts ti ruin Matts life. Is there a particular reason for this intrusion or is she just pure evil. Pretty cool run of volumes so far from Brubaker. I honestly think it was because I getting tired of the Milla story lines. Definitely reccomend this after the Bendis run.

ABSOLUTE RATING: {3+/5 stars}

STANDARDIZED RATING: <3/5 stars>

Although I was very impressed by the first issue, the rest of the arc didn't live up to my expectations. While Matt and his personal problems remain interesting and engaging, the Hand's plot was easy for me to guess pretty early on, and it didn't seem very significant. There were also too many Kung-Fu fighting characters who were rather uninteresting running around, making this feel a bit too much like Brubaker's Immortal Iron Fist. Master Izo was the worst of them all, and was very easy to dislike. This has to be the weakest Daredevil arc Brubaker has put out up to this point.

Maybe it's because I've been working through this run of DD for 6 months, but it just. So. Heavy. With. Sad (?). Events. My guy loses 3 girlfriends, which I guess is in the span of about 100 issues, but it's still annoying. Now the plot armour is starting to be visible. Also... why have him cheat on Milla with Dakota. Can't say I'm surprised, but doesn't this thirty-some man have anything better to do? That's Matt Murdock for you, I guess.
I just remembered that Shadowland is coming up in this and god... what an AWFUL event, ha. Hopefully Devil's Reign will be better when it comes out in December.

We’re back to DD: misery wank in this volume, it’s not bad work but it just keeps adding to the dumpster fire that is Matt’s life and at this point… it’s starting to feel a little stale. DD goes through many phases in his almost 60 years old life, the 2000s are definitely the emo phase of that life. Just to be clear, this comic is well done, it’s just not fun to read at all anymore.

I am going to give this a shot but I haven't been won over by where Captain America has been heading under Mr. Brubaker's direction... I am dubious about a lady bullseye gimmick. Maybe we could introduce the daredevil family... a crimefighting family that includes lady daredevil, daredevil JR., a family pet, and some casper-esque little mite who botches the family's attempts to clean up Hell's Kitchen. Actually that sounds a LOT better than this. I am prepared to eat crow however once I get to it. I obviously care enough to stab at it.

After reading it I have to say that the overall direction is fun and I always love to see anything with one of my childhood favorites Iron Fist. I think I have to stick with my gut on the whole Lady Bullseye thing; the costume design was neither exceptional nor bad enough to be fun and it seems that the Marvel Universe is rife with two-bit female ninjas who wear their unitards a little on the skimpy side, so one of them might have sufficed but who knows it may actually go somewhere in the future.

Lady Bullseye (111-115). The first half of Brubaker's third (and final) major arc is surely his weakest volume. There's great subplot involving Milla and Dakota that nicely carries along this arc of Matt's life. But the main plot, involving Lady Bullseye, is overly mysterious and totally inconclusive. Certainly this has been the model for all three of Brubaker's arcs, but story by story he's felt less need for the first half of each arc to be self-contained. The subplots and characters carry the story, but barely [6+/10].

Jednocześnie mamy sporo starć z członkami Dłoni i narastające napięcie, bowiem wszystko zmierza do finału serii, jaką jeszcze przez chwilę "dzierżawi" Brubaker. Nie jest to poziom Bendisa, ale ma prawo się podobać. Zwłaszcza, że nieco grubsza kreska, ciemne kolory, świetne zarysowane twarze i nadal bardzo wciągające rozmowy to trzon tej serii. Lark i ferajna robią kawał dobrej roboty.

I found this Daredevil volume in the library and read it on a whim. It’s from Ed Brubaker’s Daredevil run, set between Brian Michael Bendis’ and Mark Waid’s tenures with the character and both whom I have loved their Daredevil work. Maybe it's because I picked this up without reading the rest of Brubaker’s Daredevil work beforehand, but this didn’t excite me like other Daredevil comics I’ve read over the years.

A lot of the story is standard Daredevil content - The Hand are up to their usual undead ninja antics, Matt’s personal life is in shambles (mostly from sleeping with a dollar store version of Jessica Jones), there’s a bitter blind teacher (but not Stick) poking holes in Matt’s morality+methods, gorey and gritty fights, etc. It has all the staples of a Bendis or Frank Miller Daredevil story and yet because of that it doesn’t really stand out all that much. As for the titular character and Bullseye fan girl, Lady Bullseye didn’t really do much for me, the only thing that really stood out to me about her was her alter ego as a lawyer. It’s an interesting dimension I wish Brubaker had focused more on. All this content adds up to a fairly standard Daredevil arc, not horrible, but nothing particularly special. The only thing that did stand out was the Hand’s plan being revealed to be grooming Matt to be their leader. I recall that plotline being mentioned in the Waid run so I am interested in seeing it play out.

Again perhaps if I read Brubaker’s previous Daredevil volumes I’d enjoy this more. As is, it’s honestly “just okay”, just a lot of familiar Daredevil content that has worked better in other runs.

THE WAY MILLA WASN'T EVEN IN THIS AND SHE WAS STILL GETTING FUCKED OVER LMAOO PLEASEEE. What is WITH THESE WRITERS why do they hate her so much oh my fucking god if you want to kill her just do it instead of ENDLESSLY causing her pain and then HER PAIN being cause for Matt's guilt EVEN THOUGH IT LITERALLY IS ALL HIS FAULT. I could write a 800 page essay on how shitty multiple writers have treated this woman and I would still have a lot to talk about.

I liked this volume truly but the misery porn and further dumping on Matt's dumpster fire personal life is just tiring at this point. I started to love Dakota in the last volume because of how much focus she was on being an actual character and I still liked her here but they really made stupid decisions and used her as just another cog in the misery porn.

I know Daredevil is a whore- he's a mess, love that, he wasn't thinking- but the plotline is so unhinged and so out of pocket. All to further the guilt he ALREADY HAD for shit that was actually his fault. What was the actual point when we don't even see Milla anymore and just everyone talking for her and about her like she doesn't exist? It felt out of character to me but maybe I'm just bitter his little bitch ass would pull that shit.

The Lady Bullseye plotline started really interesting but then melted into huh? territory only to cliffhanger. Lady Bullseye actually ate and she was so cool though, her costume was weird and I'm still not sure if it is just body paint vs an actual spandex suit or something but it could have been worse.

But overall pls get your shit together dude I'm so tired!!!

While overall, Brubaker's run on Daredevil is really good, and a fitting follow-up for Bendis' run, I do take issue with the way Brubaker handles Matt's personality and Milla Donovan. Brubaker carries on the plotline with Murdock and Fisk both in prison really well and I was always interested to see what came next. I will say that as this run went on, I felt that an entire cast of characters was being added into Matt's life that I found hard to empathize with simply because I felt, without peaking ahead, that these characters would not stay long.
I will admit I'm biased because Bendis' run is the first run on Daredevil I ever read and I am a fan of Milla Donovan. That said, Matt's behavior in this part of the run in particular was not easy to sympathize with. While it is in character for Matt to be a player with a long list of lovers, even when he's suffering greatly, it wasn't fun to watch him cheat on his hospitalized wife, who ultimately ends up with the worst fate any of his exes could receive. I understand that, conceptually, characters who make mistakes are more likable, but the woman Matt sees behind Milla's back doesn't even stick around long enough to put her in the line up with Elektra and Karen Page.
Again, the overall story in this run was excellent, and I found myself ironically wanting more Dr. Fear appearances, but this particular thing ultimately has an effect on the rest of Daredevil continuity and I feel that if they needed to kill off Milla (and someone would have, eventually) they could have been more respectful about it.

Why is Matt kissing Dakota? Wasn't he married? So anyway, Lady Bullseye, who is hot AF, is tasked by Lord Hirochi of the Hand to target several superpowered men for an as-yet unknown purpose. The story end kind of abruptly, but that Lady D sure was hot.

Rounded up to 3.5 stars.

I stopped reading this run for a while and I'm now returning to it, and I'm quite a bit less interested in the dark tone. Daredevil has been absolutely put through the ringer, ever since this title began with Karen Page biting the dust. While I still enjoy Brubaker's writing and Lark's art, I'm a bit desensitised to the grimness and wanting some brightness. I almost wondered if Brubaker was starting to feel the same when I noted some dialog from Daredevil where he was telling Lady Bullseye that he's been through so much, had so many of his friends and loved ones harmed or killed, that there's nothing left to take from him. I'd definitely agree.
Up next is the final arc from Brubaker before Shadowland (which I'm curious to read given how much negativity I've heard about it), and then the Mark Waid run (new for me and also purported to be a much lighter experience than the Bendis/Brubaker stuff).
Onwards!

A solid volume basically giving Lady Bullseye her mission to get the next leader of The Hand.

Matt is breaking down, Milla is taken away, his friends are trying to come to him for help but he's digging himself deeper and deeper into depression and hell. It's great to watch Matt try his best while Lady Bullseye makes her move. I didn't love the introduction of a ancient warrior similar to Stick popping up but besides that a highly entertaining volume.

This book had a lot of personal conflict, as Matt Murdock makes a mistake that has huge ramifications for his personal life, he is attacked by Ninjas of the Hand and has a new villain to battle with a woman who was inspired by Bullseye. There are also great cameos of Iron Fist and others. It was a pretty fun read.

This book felt like a filler issue. I liked the design of Lady Bullseye, but she is not a memorable character IMO. I liked the Matt Murdock part of the story, the Daredevil part was quite boring actually. Also, I am not that much into characters like Black Tarantula and Iron Fist. The art was solid though, wished the story was better.

Interesting addition to the rogue gallery. Not much of Bullseye’s abilities but I get the inspiration part. She does present an interesting antagonist with great planning. The return of a Stick-like character represents picking up on the classic feud with the Hand. Also, great to see Clay Mann for an issue here!
