A good usage book for reading from cover to cover. Clearly organized and indexed, this standard usage text also has some nice surprises in it, namely a section on ergative verbs, the dubbing of "dangling modifiers" as "unattached modifiers," and the idea that "etc." should be avoided in formal writing. Oh, yeah, and "hone in" isn't a thing?! 🤯

(Actually a four-star book, but it earns the extra star because my daughter gave it to me as a gift :)

Admittedly learnt nothing, as I edit for a living, but this book is great for non-native English speakers, high school students, English teachers, and anyone who cares about how they communicate in the language. Comprehensive and written in a clear, simple tone.

I like how easy this book is to understand. It explains things in simple language, not the stuffy, tedious language that is common in grammar books. I like amount of depth the book provides. You can adjust how you use the book for a different classes based upon level. There's even a glossary on grammar terms and unit quizzes that students can give themselves.
